Position Summary:

Mobius Renewables owns and operates a fleet of plants across the US that convert raw biogas into pipeline-grade renewable natural gas (RNG). We are seeking a Operations Controls Engineer to spearhead controls during commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization for our RNG process plants.  This role requires extensive commissioning and troubleshooting experience for process control systems in a live industrial operating environment, deep expertise in Rockwell PLCs and FactoryTalk View, and hands on proficiency with medium voltage systems (480V to 4160V) and rotating equipment (compressors, blowers, chillers).  The controls engineer will partner with plant operators, maintenance technicians, electricians, equipment vendors, engineers, and IT specialists to diagnose and resolve control-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automation/Controls & SCADA Design and Troubleshooting: Design, program, and troubleshoot Rockwell PLCs (ControlLogix/CompactLogix) and develop HMIs using FactoryTalk View. Support alarm rationalization and SCADA performance improvements.
  • Equipment Integration: Provide hands-on troubleshooting and optimization for control of heavy rotating equipment, including compressors, blowers, chillers, and associated valving/instrumentation.
  • Electrical Systems: Safely work with and troubleshoot medium voltage systems (480V to 4160V), motor control centers (MCCs), and VFDs.
  • Operations Support: Act as a tier-one resource for plant operations. This includes availability on a 24/7 basis to support critical plant uptime and remote troubleshooting.
  • Plant Commissioning: Lead the programming, testing, and commissioning of new RNG processing facilities, ensuring seamless integration of all process control systems.
  • Annual Maintenance/Reliability: Support yearly turnaround activities which include but not limited to, installation and configuration of new instruments, calibration of analyzers and control valves etc.
  • Travel: Deploy to various plant sites or project locations on short notice as operational needs dictate.
  • Project Management: Take ownership of ongoing projects at plants from concepts to completion including reviewing vendors documents, responding to RFIs, redlines and drawing updates.
  • Digitalization: Work with IT team to bring data from plant level to level (power BI) and help in developing dashboards and reporting datasets.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization experience within live industrial gas-processing plants (preference given to RNG, biogas, petrochemical, or midstream oil & gas). Preferred to have experience with system integrators or service-oriented roles/organizations.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in Rockwell/Allen-Bradley programming (RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000).
    • Strong HMI/SCADA development skills with FactoryTalk View SE/ME.
    • Proven experience/knowledge of handling medium voltage power (480V – 4160V).
    • Direct experience maintaining/troubleshooting compressors, blowers, chillers, and package skids for live processes.

Availability: Must possess a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel for extended periods on short notice.
