Lead Screen and Digital Print Operative

About the role

To provide lead production support within the Print Department of an aerospace company, taking responsibility for the day-to-day operation and coordination of screen and digital print activities. The role primarily deals with the manufacture of aircraft safety and informational floor path marking systems and safety signs using screen printing machinery and digital print software, followed by routine assembly and inspection operations and processes.

The Lead Screen & Digital Print Operative will play a key role in supporting and guiding the production team, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. The role will also support the Department Manager with production planning, problem solving, training and continuous improvement activities.

Critical success factors to the role are strong leadership, a detailed understanding of product quality requirements and the importance of meeting and exceeding customer needs.

Key Details

  • Responsible for providing lead production support to the department by ensuring the company’s products are produced to the highest standard of quality
  • Lead and support the day-to-day activities of the Screen & Digital Print team, ensuring production priorities and deadlines are achieved
  • Use of Screen-Printing equipment from mixing raw materials, through printing and curing to cutting & inspection of finished components
  • Ensure area is prepared prior to and cleaned post screen print run bringing any concerns to attention of Head of Operations.
  • Use of Digital printing equipment to print aerospace signage and PL inserts
  • Use of Adobe and bespoke software packages to design sign artwork
  • Complete part inspections to ensure conformity of product to aerospace standards
  • Provide guidance, support and training to team members to ensure processes, procedures and quality standards are consistently followed
  • Act as a point of contact within the Print Department for production, quality and process-related queries
  • Support R&D team re trials, PRR reviews and contribute to effective WI’s for the team
  • Support the Head of Operations with production planning, prioritisation and allocation of work
  • Identify and resolve production issues, escalating any significant concerns to the Head of Operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and safety
  • Identify opportunities to implement process improvements
  • Pro-actively promote and contribute to the culture of meeting and exceeding customer demands
  • Lead by example in maintaining high standards of housekeeping, safety, quality and professionalism within the department

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience within a screen printing, digital printing or manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience of supporting or leading colleagues within a production environment would be advantageous
  • Pro-actively promote and contribute to the culture of meeting and exceeding customer demands
  • High attention to detail; ability to accurately follow instructions and work procedures (essential)
  • Ability to meet all production and quality standards
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn new processes and skills
  • Experience of MS Office applications to intermediate standard
  • Ability to operate in and contribute to a safe work environment
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to exceed customer expectations
  • Experience of working to tight timescales, to meet key production deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise workload and support others in meeting production requirements
  • Good communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction, guidance and support to team members
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities
  • Manual lifting
  • Use of basic hand and machine tools; safe handling of solvent glues and alcohol cleaner
  • Qualified to “A” Level (or equivalent) in appropriate subjects
