Run accounting so the CFO can run growth.

Our CFO is shifting time toward growth, lenders, investors, and the board. The work being handed off is the core of the finance function: the close, cash, the audit, controls, and the budget. You will own it, with a team of four and a clear line between your work and the CFO’s.

Instrumentum is a national sterile processing partner to hospitals and surgery centers. We operate six facilities across the U.S. and have just under 300 employees. Our accounting runs in Sage Intacct, with a location hierarchy that reports results facility by facility.

What you own

•     The close. Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end: the calendar, the checklist, the review standard, and the financial statements, prepared under U.S. GAAP.

•     Cash. You review bank activity every day and approve or reject the checks and electronic debits flagged by our bank’s fraud-prevention (positive pay) controls. You set payment priorities and approve disbursements.

•     Reporting. Monthly management reporting with location-level results and variance analysis, the reporting packages for our lenders and board, and a short set of financial KPIs for the CFO.

•     The audit. You are the audit firm’s primary contact: schedules, reconciliations, work papers, and closing out management letter recommendations.

•     Controls. Approval authorities, reconciliation standards, and segregation of duties that work on a team of five.

•     The budget. You lead the annual budget and periodic forecasts with the CFO and our facility and department leaders, and you report performance against plan.

•     The ledger and the system. Chart of accounts, fixed assets, journal entry and reconciliation review, written accounting policies, and the Intacct structure behind location reporting.

What you do not own

•     Tax returns. Our outside tax firm prepares them. You run the tax calendar, deliver year-end information on time, and file vendor 1099s.

•     Payroll. Human Resources owns the bi-weekly payroll. You partner with them on it.

•     Lender, investor, and board relationships. Those stay with the CFO. You supply the numbers that support them.

Your team

A Senior Staff Accountant, an Accountant, an AP/AR Specialist, and an Expense Analyst. You assign and review their work and cross-train them, so the close and payables never depend on one person. The team may grow as the department does.

How you start

You will learn our financials quickly and take ownership of the close and the audit from the start. You work on-site in Boca Raton five days a week, alongside the CFO.

What you need

•     An active CPA license in good standing in any U.S. state

•     A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field

•     Experience leading or supporting an independent financial statement audit

•     Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

What we would like to see

•     Sage Intacct experience

•     Public accounting experience

•     Accounting leadership experience in an operating company (industry) setting

•     Experience in healthcare or a multi-location service business

•     Multi-state payroll and multi-state tax compliance experience

•     A master’s degree

Who does well here

You want to know where every number came from, and you can explain a facility’s variance to its leader without jargon. You have built a budget, not just reported against one.
