Every innovation we deliver at Integer is developed to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for the next generation.

Maritime Autonomous Systems Engineer

About the role

The Maritime Autonomous Systems Engineer will focus on maritime sensor integration, advanced data analysis, and the processing of complex subsea datasets. Many of our projects involve using sensor-informed models deployed at the edge on uncrewed platforms to make real-time mission assessments. This role requires a strong emphasis on extracting critical mission-relevant data from dense sources—such as acoustic and magnetic sensors—and translating it into actionable information. You will heavily utilize signal processing and data reduction techniques to optimize sensor data for autonomous maritime platforms.

Integer is a science and technology research and development organization. As such, much of our work entails developing solutions for complex problems that presently have no known solutions. To achieve internal and customer project goals, all candidates must be able to perform research, understand new concepts from other engineering disciplines on advanced and complex topics, and document findings in a way that is easy for non-experts to understand.

What you'll do

  • Lead maritime sensor integration and perform advanced data analysis for uncrewed surface vessels and uncrewed underwater vessels.
  • Apply signal processing and data reduction techniques to optimize edge processing of dense subsea and oceanographic datasets.
  • Contribute to industry-academia research projects focused on the intelligent operation of maritime autonomous systems.
  • Engage directly with partners and customers to elicit project requirements and understand user needs.
  • Research complex concepts and document engineering findings clearly so they are easy for non-experts to understand.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related field) and 2-5+ years of experience relevant to primary responsibilities outlined above.

OR

  • Master’s degree in relevant field and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in signal processing, data reduction, and maritime sensor integration (e.g., acoustics, magnetic, positioning).
  • Background in mathematics, and understanding of robotic algorithms such as, linear algebra, trigonometry, Bayesian statistics, and Kalman Filters
  • Understanding of the Navy and Department of War’s mission, problem set, and strategy for the integration of autonomous systems.
  • Experience with numerical methods and scientific software development in general purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, Matlab).

Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in relevant field (e.g., computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related field) and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with unmanned and autonomous systems research involving maritime autonomous systems such as uncrewed surface vessels and uncrewed underwater vessels.
  • Familiarity with maritime sensors (acoustics, magnetic, positioning, etc.)
  • Experience with edge processing
  • Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System)
  • Experience in using AI/ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Flux, or similar).

About Integer Technologies

Integer Technologies is an applied research and product development company founded by scientists and engineers with a passion for protecting freedom with innovation. We perform R&D on next-generation systems and technologies for the Department of War and other U.S. Government agencies. We are hardware and software developers with experience transforming research into fieldable technology. Our core portfolio of research includes projects in power & energy systems, unmanned systems (with an emphasis on maritime systems), digital engineering, and cyber security. Our mission is to create a safer world by translating scientific discoveries into reliable products that address urgent national security needs… at the speed of relevance.
