International Battery Company, Inc.

Senior Assembly Manufacturing Engineer

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cell Assembly Engineer to lead the deployment, integration, and ramp-up of full cell assembly manufacturing lines for next-generation cell production. This role owns the full lifecycle of assembly systems including stacking or winding, tab welding, electrolyte filling, and sealing from process definition and vendor selection through commissioning and stable SOP operation.

You will collaborate closely with product development, process engineering, and production teams to define process parameters, commission new equipment, and implement scalable cell assembly solutions.

What you'll do

  • Translate pilot-line and development builds into scalable process and equipment requirements for full cell assembly lines
  • Define process windows, cycle times, and yield targets across assembly operations
  • Lead specification, selection, and commissioning of cell assembly equipment including stacking or winding, welding, electrolyte filling, and sealing
  • Own equipment ramp from installation through stable SOP, delivering throughput, yield, and OEE targets
  • Own performance of assembly processes during ramp, including yield improvement and defect reduction
  • Identify process and equipment bottlenecks and drive root cause resolution during ramp and production
  • Partner with equipment vendors and cross-functional teams (product development, facilities, automation, quality) to deliver integrated manufacturing solutions
  • Support factory design, layout, and material flow for cell assembly production areas

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery manufacturing or high-volume automated assembly environments
  • Hands-on expertise across full cell assembly processes including stacking or winding, welding, electrolyte filling, and sealing for prismatic cells preferred
  • Proven track record of leading equipment specification, vendor engagement, commissioning, and ramp to high-volume production
  • Strong understanding of assembly fundamentals including alignment, welding processes, contamination control, and leak prevention
  • Demonstrated ability to scale processes from pilot or development builds into stable, high-yield, high-throughput manufacturing
  • Experience driving technical decisions across cross-functional teams (product development, facilities, automation, quality) in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, and production ramp
  • 50% international travel

Nice To Have

  • Experience building or scaling a gigafactory or greenfield battery manufacturing facility
  • Experience influencing equipment design and working closely with global OEMs
  • Familiarity with dry room design, integration, and environmental controls
  • Experience with advanced or next-generation electrode technologies (e.g., high-speed winding, large-format cells)
  • Strong background in data-driven process control (SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE) and yield optimization
