From cleared federal programs to complex industrial projects, we deliver top-tier professionals who drive performance, safety, and results. Our commitment to operational excellence and customer alignment makes us the partner of choice for organizations seeking agile and reliable talent solutions.

Position Overview
Invictus is seeking a Project Engineer to support the turnkey design, procurement, installation, integration, commissioning, and turnover of a 42,000-ton central chiller plant in Central Texas. This is a hand on, field focused role that works closely with construction teams, vendors, and commissioning agents to ensure systems are properly installed, integrated, tested, and brought online in accordance with design intent and performance requirements.

This role is not limited to coordination or oversight. The Project Engineer will be actively involved in resolving field issues, supporting system integration across mechanical, electrical, and controls scopes, and participating directly in startup and commissioning activities. The ideal candidate brings a practical approach to project execution, with the ability to move between design documentation and real-world field conditions, while maintaining strong ownership of deliverables and a commitment to continuous improvement.

This is a full time W2 position based in Sweetwater, Texas, with regular on-site engagement in Central Texas and limited travel.

Key Responsibilities

Project Integration and Field Execution

  • Actively support field level integration of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
  • Work directly with field teams to resolve installation issues, clashes, and sequencing challenges in real time
  • Verify that installed systems align with design intent and operational requirements
  • Support coordination, but with direct involvement in execution and validation of work

Engineering and Technical Support

  • Review drawings and specifications with a focus on constructability and system integration
  • Support resolution of RFIs with an emphasis on practical, field driven solutions
  • Assist with system level troubleshooting during installation and startup
  • Validate equipment installation, system connections, and integration points

Procurement and Equipment Support

  • Track equipment delivery and ensure readiness for installation and startup
  • Support vendor coordination during equipment installation and startup activities
  • Review submittals with attention to how equipment will function within the overall system

Construction and Field Presence

  • Maintain a consistent on site presence supporting daily field execution
  • Participate in site walks, inspections, and quality verification with a focus on installed work
  • Assist with installation sequencing and coordination to maintain schedule and reduce rework

Commissioning and System Startup

  • Actively support pre functional and functional testing activities
  • Participate in system startup, troubleshooting, and performance validation
  • Work directly with commissioning agents and vendors to resolve deficiencies
  • Support integrated systems testing to ensure full plant functionality

Turnover and Closeout

  • Support development of turnover documentation including as built drawings and O and M materials
  • Assist in validating system readiness for owner turnover
  • Support training efforts with a clear understanding of system operation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline
  • Two to five years of experience supporting design build or turnkey mechanical infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated experience working in the field on installation, integration, or commissioning activities
  • Experience with central chiller plants, chilled water systems, or large HVAC infrastructure preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply them in real world field conditions
  • Hands on experience supporting system startup, troubleshooting, or commissioning activities strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working on site daily in an active construction environment
  • This role is intended for engineers who are actively involved in field execution and system integration. Candidates primarily focused on high level project management or delegation will not be a fit for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting district cooling, data centers, campuses, or utility scale plants
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and performance-based acceptance criteria
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards, Texas codes, and industry best practices
  • EIT certification or progress toward Professional Engineer licensure
