Position Purpose

The Finance Transformation & Systems Manager is responsible for designing, implementing and continuously improving Loam Bio’s finance systems, automation environment, data architecture and financial processes.

The role is focused on transforming the Finance function through technology, artificial intelligence, process redesign and improved systems integration. Its purpose is to reduce manual processing, improve data quality, strengthen financial controls and enable the Finance team to provide more timely and useful financial information to management.

The position is principally a transformation, systems and project-based role and does not have primary responsibility for the routine transactional accounting activities performed within the Finance function.

Key Responsibilities

1. Finance Transformation

• Develop and implement the Finance transformation roadmap in conjunction with the CFO.
• Identify manual, repetitive and inefficient Finance processes that can be simplified, automated or eliminated.
• Redesign Finance workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy and scalability.
• Lead implementation of new Finance processes and operating models.
• Develop standardised Finance procedures and process documentation.
• Establish measurable efficiency and quality improvements arising from Finance transformation initiatives.

2. AI and Automation

• Identify appropriate applications of artificial intelligence and automation within the Finance function.
• Design and implement AI-assisted workflows for financial analysis, reporting, document processing and Finance administration.
• Develop automated processes that reduce reliance on manual spreadsheet preparation and repetitive data handling.
• Evaluate emerging AI and Finance technologies and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Establish appropriate governance, controls and human review processes around the use of AI within Finance.
• Monitor the effectiveness and accuracy of automated Finance processes.

3. Finance Systems Architecture

• Review the architecture of Loam Bio’s Finance technology environment.
• Design an integrated Finance systems strategy covering accounting, reporting, planning and operational Finance systems.
• Lead implementation and optimisation of ERP, reporting and Finance technology platforms.
• Improve integration and data flows between Finance systems and other company platforms.
• Identify and eliminate unnecessary duplication of information across systems and spreadsheets.
• Develop Finance system specifications and requirements in conjunction with Finance and operational stakeholders.

4. Data and Reporting Infrastructure

• Design scalable Finance data structures to improve management reporting and analysis.
• Establish automated data flows between source systems and financial reporting tools.
• Develop dashboards and analytical tools to improve management visibility of financial and operational performance.
• Improve the accessibility, consistency and reliability of Finance data.
• Establish appropriate validation and control mechanisms around automated financial information.

5. Financial Modelling and Decision Support

• Develop financial models supporting strategic projects, commercial opportunities and investment decisions.
• Build scenario and sensitivity analysis tools to support management decision-making.
• Assist the CFO with analysis of new business models, products, markets and strategic initiatives.
• Develop automated modelling tools capable of incorporating operational and financial data.

6. Internal Controls and Process Design

• Design controls appropriate to new or automated Finance processes.
• Identify control weaknesses arising from manual processes or fragmented systems.
• Develop system-based controls that reduce dependence on manual checking.
• Maintain Finance process maps, control documentation and system governance procedures.
• Work with the CFO and Finance leadership to ensure transformed processes remain appropriately controlled.

7. Transformation Project Management

• Lead Finance technology and transformation projects from design through implementation.
• Prepare project plans, requirements, milestones and implementation schedules.
• Coordinate Finance system vendors, consultants and internal stakeholders.
• Manage user testing and implementation of new Finance technology.
• Develop training materials and support Finance employees adopting new systems and processes.
• Conduct post-implementation reviews to ensure expected benefits are achieved.

8. Business Partnering

• Partner with the CFO and senior management to identify opportunities for improved financial information and decision support.
• Work with functional teams to understand financial information requirements and translate these into appropriate technology solutions.
• Support management with financial analysis relating to strategic and operational initiatives.

Experience and Capabilities

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• substantial accounting, Finance transformation or financial systems experience;
• strong understanding of accounting processes and financial controls;
• demonstrated experience designing or implementing Finance technology solutions;
• advanced financial modelling and analytical capability;
• experience implementing automation, AI or data-driven Finance processes;
• strong project management capability;
• experience working across multiple Finance and operational systems;
• strong process-design and problem-solving skills; and
• the ability to partner effectively with senior management and operational teams.

Success in the role will primarily be measured by:

• reduction in manual Finance processes;
• increased automation of repetitive activities;
• improved integration between Finance systems;
• reduction in spreadsheet dependency;
• improved financial data quality and timeliness;
• measurable improvements in Finance efficiency;
