Who Is Marcus Thomas?

Marcus Thomas is one of the country’s leading independent advertising and marketing agencies, and we’re independent again on purpose. We bought ourselves back from private equity so our clients and our people come before shareholders. We’re 200+ people who work with fewer layers and less bureaucracy, focused on one goal: turning chaos into clarity, built around each client’s problem.

We do the work ourselves, with real judgment and real people. We roll up our sleeves, ask a better question, figure it out, and stay in it for the long term. We have offices in Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Santiago, Chile, working across creative, media, public relations, social, digital strategy and technology.

Local candidates are preferred for this role.

  • Cleveland: Employees in the Cleveland area work from the Cleveland office each Wednesday and one additional day per week based on team needs.
  • Cincinnati: Employees in the Cincinnati area work from the Cincinnati office each Wednesday and one additional day per week based on team needs.
  • Remote: Employees elsewhere in Ohio or in an approved state may work remotely.

About the Role

As a .NET Developer on our Lottery Solutions team, you’ll build and maintain the reliable web-based solutions our lottery clients and the people who use their digital platforms depend on. You’ll own application modules end to end, from technical definition through development, testing and release, working alongside back-end, front-end, mobile, QA, business analysis, architecture and IT teammates to turn client needs into secure, maintainable and scalable applications.

This is an individual contributor role. It’s a strong fit if you like solving practical business problems, learning from senior technical teammates, and shipping production-quality work in a collaborative agency environment. You’ll deepen your .NET expertise, strengthen your understanding of modern delivery practices, and contribute to solutions running in highly visible, regulated client environments where reliability and security really matter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement application modules based on provided specifications, and contribute to maintaining product quality through code reviews and self-assessment.
  • Analyze and estimate small technical tasks, and perform updates and maintenance on existing code.
  • Support nontechnical staff in understanding straightforward client requirements, and help them see what is and is not feasible.
  • Develop, integrate and consume APIs, and build against relational databases with an eye on performance.
  • Build technical expertise through work experience and training, collaborating with senior team members to deliver reliable and efficient solutions.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team made up of technical and nontechnical members.
  • Participate in solution brainstorming and help identify the best approach to delivering against client needs and requirements.
  • Support DevOps and deployment work, including GitLab repositories, merge requests, CI/CD pipelines and controlled production releases.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, including solution specifications, API documentation, deployment procedures and code documentation that supports long-term maintainability.
  • Assist with project estimation, planning and milestone tracking, providing accurate effort estimates so projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Research emerging technologies, AI-assisted development techniques and industry trends, sharing what you learn and recommending improvements to our development practices.

What Success Looks Like

30-Day Expectations

  • Learn the lottery business domain, product ecosystem and team processes.
  • Become comfortable with the development environment and team workflows
  • Deliver initial bug fixes or small enhancements while meeting coding and quality standards.

Six-Month Expectations

  • Independently deliver features and enhancements of moderate complexity.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the lottery platform and business requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with Product, QA, DevOps and other engineering teams while consistently delivering high-quality code.

12-Month Expectations

  • Be a fully productive and trusted member of the Lottery Solutions team.
  • Own assigned work from requirements through implementation with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong business domain knowledge and consistently deliver reliable, maintainable and high-quality solutions.
  • Support new team members through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Summary

  • 30 days: Learn the business and start contributing.
  • Six months: Work independently and deliver consistently.
  • 12 months: Become a trusted, fully productive team member with strong domain knowledge and high-quality delivery.
