About the Position
The Associate Producer will support the Media Producers and Supervising Producers in creating 10-20 minute YouTube videos. This is an entry-level production role for someone with 1-3 years of experience who wants to grow their skills in research, reporting, and video production. The Associate Producer will help keep projects organized and on schedule by supporting research, fact checks, quality control, production logistics, footage management, and early-stage writing across the production process.
The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, reporting skills and a willingness to learn.
Core Responsibilities
- Support Media Producers and the Supervising Producers across pre-production, production, and post-production on news-driven videos
- Conduct script fact-checking to verify the accuracy of claims, data, quotations, and supporting sources prior to publication.
- Perform quality control reviews of rough cuts, identifying technical issues, visual inaccuracies, copyright concerns, and ensuring all on-screen assets are accurate and properly sourced.
- Review scripts, captions, and on-screen text for grammar, spelling, style, consistency, and editorial quality.
- Assist producers in coordinating statement requests with corporations, government agencies, and other individuals or organizations featured in reporting.
- Conduct final post-production quality assurance, graphics, exports, captions, and overall technical polish to ensure videos meet publishing standards.
- Assist with researching and contacting interview subjects including experts, policy makers and on-the-ground characters
- Organize and manage raw footage, b-roll, and media assets for producers and editors
- Assist with basic reporting tasks such as seeking public comment, conducting interviews, and submitting FOIA requests
- Source and log archival footage and stock media for videos
- Attend and take notes in pitch meetings, team check-ins, and thumbnail/title meetings
- Proactively identify inefficiencies and challenges and work collaboratively with the team to put forth solutions
- Develop and pitch a variety of story and coverage ideas that add value to our news and/or advocacy programs.
- Complete assignments from supervisors and colleagues and meet deadlines
- Operate in a nimble, fast-paced environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Experience/Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in journalism, video production, or a related field
- Strong research, writing, copyediting and organizational skills
- Experience producing and reporting on progressive politics and economic issues, with a sharp grasp of business and finance terms and US government process and policies
- Experience with finding sources and interview subjects for stories, experience casting on-camera interviewees in particular
- A passion for economic justice
- Excellent written & verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
