Position Summary

PICPA is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative Senior Accountant to join its Accounting & Finance team. Reporting directly to the Accounting and Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of day-to-day accounting operations and partners closely with the Accounting and Finance Manager on the accounting close, financial reporting, internal controls, and continuous improvement of the controllership function. This role is well suited for someone who prioritizes continuous improvement and wants technical depth and visibility into the broader financial picture of a mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities
Accounting Operations and Close

·       Support the month-end close process, helping ensure deadlines and accuracy targets are consistently met.

·       Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP and organizational accounting policy.

·       Manage day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including cash application, invoice creation, and AP/AR aging.

·       Apply incoming cash receipts and research and resolve unapplied or misapplied cash items.

·       Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies.

Financial Reporting, Budgeting, and Analysis

·       Partner with the Accounting and Finance Manager to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

·       Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

·       Develop supporting schedules and analysis for financial reporting and management decision-making.

Service, Controls, and Process Improvement

·       Serve as a point of contact for department personnel on billing inquiries, researching and resolving discrepancies in a clear, timely, and professional manner.

·       Support the design, testing, and ongoing monitoring of internal controls over financial reporting.

·       Develop and maintain documentation of accounting processes and procedures to support consistency, training, and continuous improvement.

Audit and Additional Assignments

·       Assist with external audit requests, including preparing schedules, compiling supporting documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.

Perform other accounting duties, ad hoc analysis, and special projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

·       Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

·       Three to five years of progressive accounting experience required.

Technical Requirements

·       Solid working knowledge of GAAP.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using an accounting or ERP system.

·       Ability to organize, manipulate, and interpret large data sets.

Skills Requirements

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

·       Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.

·       Ability to manage competing deadlines and prioritize effectively in a remote work environment.

·       High degree of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.

·       Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small finance team.

Preferred Skills

·       Not-for-profit accounting experience and familiarity with concepts such as net asset classification and contribution and grant revenue recognition.

·       CPA credential or active progress toward CPA licensure.

·       Experience with Sage Intacct and Aptify.

·       Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools and with ChatGPT or Claude.

This is a remote job, with requests to come into the office as needed.

Salary range is between $75,000 and $95,000 according to alignment of skills and org needs.
