This highly visible role will serve as an operational partner to the CAO, helping drive the execution of key business objectives across the actuarial team and broader enterprise. The Chief of Staff will play a critical role in drafting the actuarial strategic agenda, ensuring alignment across pricing, reserving, risk services, and enterprise initiatives. This position combines strategic planning, business analysis, cross-functional project leadership, executive communications, and operational execution. The ideal candidate is an intellectually curious and analytical leader with strong business acumen, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to seek alignment and monitor execution of cross functional projects. This role will work closely with executive leadership and serve as a trusted partner in advancing Palomar's growth strategy and long-term value creation.

Why this role matters:

Palomar's actuarial team is growing fast, and it works best when the day-to-day runs smoothly. This role is the operational engine behind the team. You'll keep projects on track, meetings productive, events well run and help the actuarial team execute. If you're a sharp, curious thinker who wants a seat at the table, helping shape the team's vision, spotting risks and opportunities early, and turning complex, competing priorities into clear plans and on-time delivery, this is a great fit.

What will you do:

  • Partner closely with the senior actuarial leadership team to draft, communicate, and execute strategic priorities across the actuarial department.
  • Support annual and monthly business planning processes, including strategic initiatives, resource planning, and performance measurement.
  • Serve as a thought partner by identifying opportunities and risks impacting the actuarial team and strategic priorities.
  • Prepare executive presentations, board materials, and strategic analyses to support key decisions.
  • Establish project governance, milestones, accountability frameworks, and executive reporting.
  • Coordinate resources and communications across departments.
  • Monitor initiative performance and provide regular updates to actuarial leadership.
  • Act as the liaison with People & Talent to support the hiring, on-boarding, off-boarding, and performance reviews for actuarial team members.
  • Coordinate leadership meetings, strategic reviews, and planning sessions.
  • Develop agendas, facilitate discussions, document decisions, and accountability for deliverables.
  • Support organizational design, prioritization, and change management initiatives.
  • Be the point of contact between the actuarial team and other departments, and flag blockers early.
  • Take on special projects as assigned by the CAO.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting insurance, consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, finance, or related analytical functions.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership and supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional projects and enterprise initiatives.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and resolution-oriented capabilities.
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with, or courses in accounting, business, or similar courses that demonstrate an understanding of, financial statements, budgets, or department profit and loss (P&L) statements.
  • Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point skills.
  • Experience preparing leadership, board, investor, or executive-level materials preferred.
  • Experience working with project management tools (e.g. GAANT chart, process map) preferred.
  • Able to work on-site 3-5x/week, as needed

We love people who want to:

  • Build strong relationships through transparency, trust, and respect for each other.
  • Work in an agile environment, with a resilient mindset to find creative solutions to challenges.
  • Collaborate and celebrate diverse perspectives, promoting inclusivity and equality.
  • Do the right thing with strong conviction and integrity.
  • Be bold and innovative to help make an impact.
  • Demonstrable track record of working autonomously and driving progress
  • Be intellectually curious, think creatively, and pragmatic
