Product Design Lead, AI Governance
About Rippling
Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.
Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.
Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.
We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.
About the role
At Rippling, Design is central to our mission to free smart people to tackle hard problems. We build products that automate the operational complexity of running a business, from HR and payroll to IT and finance, so our customers can focus on what matters most.
As a Product Design Lead on the IT team, you’ll play a key role in shaping AI governance at Rippling. You’ll help IT and security teams understand how AI is being used across their organizations, manage risk, and enable employees to adopt AI safely.
You’ll own end-to-end product experiences across new 0-1 bets and evolving products. You’ll turn technically complex, ambiguous problems into clear workflows that balance ease of use, control, security, and trust.
Success in this role requires a designer who thrives in fast-paced environments, develops deep customer and domain expertise, and partners closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, go-to-market, and customer-facing teams. Designers at Rippling are product builders. AI isn’t just something we design, it’s fundamental to how we work, from exploration and prototyping to shipping customer experiences.
This role is based in Bangalore and will collaborate closely with teams across India and North America.
What you will do
- Help define long-term and AI-first strategies for AI governance, translating ambitious product opportunities into clear experience goals.
- Own significant workstreams from discovery and problem framing through launch, learning, and iteration.
- Design new 0-1 experiences, improve and expand existing workflows, and execute the detailed work required to ship polished products.
- Design for IT administrators, security teams, technology leaders, and employees, making everyday workflows simple while preserving the control and depth advanced customers require.
- Shape interaction models for complex workflows involving permissions, risk, automation, and AI systems, accounting for dependencies, edge cases, and second-order effects.
- Build deep customer and domain knowledge through research, customer conversations, product data, competitive analysis, and feedback from go-to-market teams.
- Collaborate tightly with Product, Engineering, and Research to make high-velocity decisions, test assumptions, unblock dependencies, and ship with a high quality bar.
What you will need
- 8+ years of end-to-end product design experience shipping complex, high-impact products from concept through launch and iteration.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong product judgment, systems thinking, interaction design, and visual craft, particularly in complex or ambiguous domains.
- Experience designing technically complex products with deep workflows, permissions, platform dependencies, or enterprise-grade controls.
- Strong interaction and visual design skills, including the ability to produce polished work across states and edge cases and communicate clear, build-ready specifications.
- Technical curiosity and comfort collaborating with engineers on AI systems, model behavior, evaluations, agentic workflows, MCPs, or related concepts. Expertise in every area is not expected.
- Active use of LLMs and AI-assisted prototyping tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or Claude Code, for research, synthesis, exploration, prototyping, or communication.
- Relentless customer focus, with a habit of investigating real behavior, validating assumptions, and solving meaningful problems.
- Excellent communication and storytelling, from crisp async writing to persuasive presentations that drive alignment and decisions.
- A track record of partnering effectively with Product and Engineering, managing multiple workstreams, unblocking dependencies, and owning timelines with minimal oversight.
