Axion Consultancy Ltd is a specialist fire safety business within the Riskhub Group, delivering fire engineering strategies, fire risk assessments, compliance inspections, and digital compliance management solutions to housing associations, local authorities, and building stock managers across the UK. Together, the two business units provide an end-to-end fire safety offering — from design-stage fire engineering through to ongoing occupancy compliance — supported by the Riskhub SaaS platform. This is a commercially driven, client-facing environment where sector knowledge, strong relationships, and a proactive approach to business growth are essential.


Business Development Manager

Location: London office (Farringdon) / Field-based

Employment Type: Full-time

Hours of work: 40 hours per week

Salary: Competitive + commission/bonus


About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to generate new business leads and revenue across our Axion Fire Engineering and Axion Compliance divisions. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and winning new clients, building a strong pipeline, and developing lasting relationships within the housing, construction, and built environment sectors.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the fire safety sector, confidence in engaging senior stakeholders, and a track record of delivering new business in a B2B consultancy or services environment. You will work closely with our Group Client Services team and operational leadership to ensure a seamless transition from prospect to client.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Generation:

  • Proactively identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities for Axion Consultancy Ltd.
  • Build and manage a robust sales pipeline using HubSpot CRM, from initial lead through to contract close.
  • Develop and execute targeted outreach strategies to engage housing associations, local authorities, property managers, developers, and building owners.
  • Respond to inbound enquiries, RFPs, and tender opportunities, preparing compelling proposals and presentations.

Market Engagement & Networking:

  • Attend and represent Axion at industry conferences, trade shows, exhibitions, and networking events across the fire safety and built environment sectors.
  • Build visibility and brand awareness for Axion and the Riskhub Group within target markets.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes (e.g. Building Safety Act, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order) to identify emerging opportunities.

Relationship Development:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing clients, positioning Axion as a trusted partner for fire safety and compliance.
  • Engage senior decision-makers including Directors of Property, Building Safety Managers, and Heads of Compliance at target organisations.
  • Work closely with the Group Client Services team to identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities within the existing client base.

Commercial & Strategic Contribution:

  • Contribute to the development of Axion's commercial strategy and annual sales targets.
  • Provide market intelligence and client feedback to inform service development and pricing strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all business development activity, pipeline status, and forecasting within HubSpot CRM.
  • Prepare regular reports on pipeline performance, conversion rates, and revenue forecasts for senior leadership.

Collaboration & Handover:

  • Work with Axion Fire Engineering and Axion Compliance delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition from sales to service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the marketing function to develop collateral, case studies, and content that supports business development activity.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Account Manager to ensure new client onboarding is well-planned and expectations are clearly set.


You should apply if you:

  • Have a demonstrable track record in B2B business development or sales, ideally within fire safety, building compliance, construction consultancy, or a related built environment sector.
  • Possess strong knowledge of the UK fire safety landscape, including relevant legislation such as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Building Safety Act 2022, and associated standards (essential).
  • Have an understanding of the built environment sector, including the challenges facing housing associations, local authorities, and property managers (desirable).
  • Are experienced in managing the full sales cycle from lead generation through to contract negotiation and close.
  • Have excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with the ability to engage confidently at senior and executive level.
  • Are skilled in CRM management (HubSpot preferred) and pipeline reporting.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify opportunities, qualify leads, and articulate value propositions.
  • Are self-motivated, target-driven, and comfortable working autonomously in a field-based role.
  • Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and are willing to travel nationally as required.


Desirable:

  • Existing network of contacts within housing associations, local authorities, or the wider social housing and property compliance sectors.
  • Membership of or familiarity with relevant industry bodies (e.g. IFE, FIA, RICS, CIH).
  • Experience selling SaaS or technology-enabled services alongside consultancy offerings.

Work Location

This is a hybrid role based from our London hub in Farringdon, with significant field-based activity including client meetings, site visits, and industry events across the UK.

Interview Process

Our goal is to keep the interview process fairly simple to keep you engaged, but thorough enough to help us each understand if we're a good fit for each other.

This is what the process will look like for this role:

Step 1: 30-min initial meeting with the Group CEO / HR Manager to discuss your background, sales experience, and sector knowledge — so that we can understand if your skills and expertise match what we're looking for.

Step 2: 60-min in-person meeting with the Group CEO and relevant senior leadership to discuss the role in depth, your approach to business development, and how you would build a pipeline for Axion's services.

Throughout the process we'll give you insights into Axion and Riskhub, our current product suite and vision for the future. We welcome any questions as we want to make sure you're joining a team and company you'll be excited to be part of.
