Job Title: Communication Access Coordinator / Staff Interpreter
Salary: The anticipated annual base salary range is dependent on experience, credentials, geographic location, and internal equity.

Benefits: This role is eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, paid holidays, a 401(k), and other company-sponsored benefits.

Hours: This is a full-time, exempt position. The role may require flexibility to support urgent service requests and changing scheduling needs.
Location: This role is remote/hybrid and open to candidates located in approved U.S. states.

Role Overview 

The Interpreter Services Coordinator / Staff Interpreter is a hybrid operations and service-delivery role responsible for both coordinating interpreting requests and directly providing interpreting services.


This position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality, timely, and culturally competent communication access for clients and Deaf consumers. The individual manages interpreter scheduling, booking logistics, service coordination, and client communication, while also serving as an interpreter for assigned appointments and service requests.


The ideal candidate is highly organized, service-oriented, and experienced in ASL interpreting, with the ability to balance administrative coordination responsibilities and direct interpreting work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.


Key Responsibilities 


Interpreter Services Coordination

  • Coordinate and schedule interpreting requests across service types, including remote and scheduled assignments.
  • Manage interpreter bookings, confirmations, cancellations, and last-minute changes.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, interpreters, and internal teams regarding service logistics.
  • Monitor daily coverage needs and help ensure appropriate interpreter assignments based on availability, qualifications, and client requirements.
  • Track and maintain accurate scheduling records, service details, and assignment updates in internal systems.
  • Support urgent and high-priority interpreting requests with professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Assist in improving workflows for interpreter scheduling, communication, and service delivery.
  • Help ensure all assignments are staffed efficiently and in alignment with service standards.


Direct Interpreting Services

  • Provide ASL interpreting services for assigned appointments, meetings, and service requests.
  • Deliver professional, accurate, and culturally competent interpretation between Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing participants.
  • Support interpreting across a variety of settings, which may include business, community, education, healthcare, and virtual environments.
  • Maintain ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional conduct in accordance with RID and industry best practices.
  • Prepare for assignments as needed and adapt to the communication preferences of consumers and clients.
  • Document completed assignments and communicate relevant follow-up information to the coordination team.


Service Quality & Client Support

  • Help maintain high standards of service quality, professionalism, and interpreter readiness.
  • Address routine service issues and escalate complex concerns when needed.
  • Gather and communicate feedback from clients and interpreters to support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure interpreting services are delivered in a way that reflects Deaf cultural competence and communication access best practices.
  • Support a positive client experience through proactive communication and dependable service execution.


Administrative & Team Support

  • Assist with onboarding support, interpreter communications, and general operational coordination.
  • Help verify interpreter credentials, availability, and assignment readiness.
  • Collaborate with leadership on staffing needs, service trends, and operational improvements.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and workflow development initiatives.
  • Support reporting needs related to scheduling activity, fulfillment rates, and interpreter utilization.


Skills & Experience Required - Essential

  • 2+ years of experience in ASL interpreting, interpreter coordination, scheduling, or related accessibility services.
  • Fluency in ASL and strong understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Experience providing professional interpreting services.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple requests and priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with a remote or hybrid team.
  • Proficiency with scheduling systems, calendars, and standard business software.


Skills & Experience Required - Desirable

  • RID certification, state licensure, or other relevant interpreting credentials.
  • Experience coordinating interpreter schedules or service delivery operations.
  • Experience with VRI or remote interpreting platforms.
  • Familiarity with ADA accessibility requirements and communication access standards.
  • Experience working in fast-paced service environments with real-time scheduling needs.
