1.   Communication & Responsibilities

·         Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed.  Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.

·         Obtain and document patient history to include chief compliant, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), allergies and medications and history of allergies and medications, social history and review of systems.  (This is required at least once a year).

·         Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include measuring and recording of: visual acuity, measure and record glasses, manifest refraction for distance and near vision, tonometry, pupils, Schirmer testing, dilate patient, color screening, administer visual field, perform corneal modeling, laser interferometry, auto refraction, auto keratometry, manual keratometry, glare testing,  A-scan, photos, HRT and Topography.

·         Assist in the performance of complex clinical procedures requiring special assistance. Involved in direct patient care to include: changing of dressings, instilling of eye drops and ointments. Administer oral medications; instruct in home care.

·         Refill Rx with doctors approval and document in the chart.

·         Escort patient to optical shop after dilation or after exam as appropriate.

·         Inform potential LASIK candidates of options and inform doctor of interest when necessary with chart documentation.  Schedule LASIK consult whenever possible or document interest on schedule sheet.


2.    Administrative

·         Be on time every day for your scheduled shift and for all meetings.

·         Keep exposed lenses, mirrors, and prisms clean. 

·         Check that all equipment is where it belongs.

·         Organize rooms between patients.

·         Keep med cabinets organized.

·         Refill cotton balls and refill chin paper.

·         Perform other duties as required. (File charts during downtime).

·         Clean and stock exam rooms every morning.

·         Keep lenses (+20D, +80D) in containers when closing rooms.

·         Turn off lights and power to all equipment at the end of the day.

·         Flexibility to travel to other Spectrum Eye locations based on staffing needs


 

3.   Triage

·         Determine which patients should be taken next from the waiting room to have treatment initiated. 

·         Escort patients from waiting room to the treatment room.

·         Following work-up, advise patients of who will see them next, and make patients comfortable during their wait.

·         Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician.

·         Perform other duties as required.
