Senior Strategic Operations Manager

Senior Strategic Operations Manager

Full-Time, Remote / Salary, Exempt / Includes Benefits, PTO, Equity

Steno is growing! We’re looking for a Senior Strategic Operations Manager to join our winning team, which is revolutionizing the court reporting industry every single day. We’re a diverse team from all over the country (and beyond) and we’re crazy about redefining the boundaries of an outdated industry.

In this role, you will serve as both a data detective and a hands-on operator, playing a dual role that drives operational excellence through insights and execution. You will work closely with the Associate Director of Operations to not only uncover valuable data insights but also lead cross-functional projects that transform those insights into actionable business improvements.

This role starts with a secondment. For your first several months, you will embed with a single business unit and support it end to end — running the day-to-day, improving processes, and answering key strategic questions. After this initial period, you help shape what comes next: go deep in a core operational area such as Provider Operations or Production, stay with the business unit as it scales, or flex across Steno on whatever is most urgent. In every version of this path, you’ll work on the problems that matter most to the business.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who pairs analytical rigor with a willingness to do the work directly. You are equally comfortable handling time-sensitive requests from external partners, writing a SQL query, improving a process, and walking cross-functional stakeholders through analysis — often in the same afternoon. This team member will be an indispensable partner in navigating our rapid growth in the competitive legal tech landscape.

If you’re looking for a company that offers support, guidance, an abundance of killer giphys, and unlimited potential to grow into your best self, you can bet we’d love to have you too.

On a regular basis you will

  • Immerse yourself in data, uncovering insights that drive strategic decisions and proactively investigating operational trends
  • Develop and maintain dashboards that tell meaningful stories about operational performance
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses that answer critical business questions and reveal optimization opportunities
  • Lead and manage complex operational projects from conception through completion
  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives that span multiple departments and stakeholders
  • Develop project timelines, track deliverables, and ensure accountability across teams
  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, and strategic planning sessions
  • Transform analytical findings into structured improvement projects with clear outcomes
  • Manage operational process improvements and implementation of new workflows
  • Serve as a strategic partner to operations leadership, extending their capacity to drive multiple initiatives
  • Present findings and project updates confidently to stakeholders at all levels
  • Anticipate business needs by staying ahead with both analytical insights and proactive project planning
  • Become the go-to person for both data questions and operational project execution
  • Bridge the gap between data insights and practical business implementation

You’re gonna crush it if

  • You have 4+ years of experience pairing analytical rigor with hands-on operational ownership. We are especially interested in candidates who have worked in management consulting and at either a two-sided marketplace, or in legal technology.
  • You have advanced proficiency in SQL, data manipulation and visualization. You are highly adept at using Excel and business intelligence tools like Omni.
  • You have proven project management experience with ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage multiple stakeholders
  • You switch context without losing the thread. You can drive several unrelated workstreams at once and still catch the detail that matters in each one
  • You have high emotional intelligence and read a room well. You earn credibility with colleagues, and you disagree productively
  • You have strong organizational skills with experience managing competing priorities and complex timelines
  • You have inherent curiosity and analytical follow-through - you can’t help but ask “why?” and love using data and logic to explore solutions
  • You have excellent communication skills with ability to present to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • You have a self-starter mentality with ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and identify opportunities with limited oversight
  • You thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments with comfort in ambiguity and rapid change

Bonus points for

  • You have experience with Snowflake
  • You have familiarity with modern data stack technologies such as dbt and Fivetran
  • You have knowledge of the legal tech industry or professional services
  • You have experience with Python or R for data analysis
  • You have an understanding of machine learning concepts and applications
  • You have experience working with operational teams in complex service-based businesses

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary - $125,000 - $155,000
  • Health, Vision, & Dental Benefits - generous company-sponsored health plans for both employees and dependents, including comprehensive vision & dental
  • Wellness/Mental Health - shared benefits to be used among employees and families
  • Flexible Paid Time Off - allowing employees to find balance in their lives
  • Options of Equity - we know our success is nothing without our team
  • Access to a 401k through Guideline
  • A home office setup and a monthly stipend to offset internet and phone costs
