About the role

The Information is looking for a senior reporter to open our first bureau in Israel and own our coverage of the country's technology industry as our Bureau Chief.

This is a unique opportunity to build a bureau from scratch at a publication with the reach and resources to back it. The Bureau Chief will shape how The Information covers Israel for years to come, with direct support from the newsroom's leadership and a mandate to grow.

Israel is one of the most important technology markets in the world, and its strengths in cybersecurity, defense technology, AI, semiconductors and networking infrastructure are increasingly central to the global industry. Leading Silicon Valley venture firms and a growing number of international investors are backing Israeli startups, Israeli companies are regular acquisition targets for the largest U.S. technology companies. We think this market deserves deeper, faster coverage than it gets today.

The role combines source-driven reporting with the opportunity to build something new. In the near term, the Bureau Chief will break news on the companies, founders, investors and deals that matter most to our readers. Over time, the Bureau Chief will help grow the bureau, including hiring additional reporters and contributing to events and video programming in the region.

This reporter will work closely with our editors and reporters in San Francisco, New York and Washington, and with our Asia team. Strong reporting is the driving pulse of this newsroom, fostered by editors and senior reporters who actively coach reporters on how to advance their reporting and writing.

What you'll do

• Break news on Israeli technology companies, including funding rounds, acquisitions, IPOs, secondary sales and leadership changes.
• Report on the cybersecurity, defense technology, AI, semiconductor and infrastructure companies that are shaping the global industry.
• Build and maintain a deep source network among founders, executives, investors and bankers in Israel and among the U.S. firms and investors active there.
• Write features and profiles of the most important people and trends in Israeli technology.
• Conduct high-profile interviews and serve as a voice for The Information at events, on panels and on TITV.
• Help build the bureau over time, including hiring and mentoring reporters and contributing to events and video in the region.
• Collaborate with reporters across the newsroom on stories that involve Israeli companies, investors and talent.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a reporter, with a strong track record of breaking news and producing deeply reported stories.
• A proven ability to develop sources, uncover information and break news ahead of competitors.
• Strong understanding of the technology industry, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, defense technology, AI, semiconductors and infrastructure.
• Excellent writing and reporting skills, with the ability to produce both sharp news stories and compelling features and profiles.
• Strong editorial judgment and the ability to identify the stories and trends that matter most to a sophisticated technology and business audience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with sources and work effectively across teams and cultures.
• Interest in building something from the ground up, with the ambition to eventually help grow and lead a bureau.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Tel Aviv, Israel.
• Working proficiency in Hebrew is a plus
