AI Software Engineer

At Tive, we imagine a fully-transparent world in which everything and everyone is connected. We innovate beyond what the world thought possible—so what people hold near and dear arrives on time and in full.

We believe (and live!) four core values:

  • Transparency First: We make everything visible so that everyone can operate better
  • Always strive to make things simpler
  • We are One Team, we have each other's backs
  • Relentless iteration to optimize and improve

Whether shipped by road, rail, ocean, or air, Tive reduces shipment delays, minimizes rejected loads, and decreases theft, damage, and spoilage. Our customers count on Tive to ensure that their shipments are delivered on time and in full—because every shipment matters.

About the role:

As an AI Software Engineer, you'll help build and run the shared rails underneath all of it: a central model gateway on AWS Bedrock, authentication and role-based access control, audit logging, evaluation harnesses, and the knowledge layer that grounds every agent in accurate Tive data.

Tive is rebuilding its core internal business systems; customer portal, service desk, and CRM; with AI embedded from the start rather than bolted on afterward. You'll own the shared rails underneath all of it: a central model gateway on AWS Bedrock, authentication and role-based access control, audit logging, evaluation harnesses, and the knowledge layer that grounds every agent in accurate Tive data.

This is a platform role, a build-first one, and a senior one. You'll join a small team responsible for this infrastructure and work with its technical lead as a peer on design decisions, with real authority over the architecture of what you build and real accountability for how it runs. The alternative to getting this right is that every AI capability arrives as a one-off with its own auth, its own retrieval, and its own permanent maintenance surface; the same plumbing rebuilt three times over. Your work makes sure that doesn't happen, so that adding a new AI capability becomes a configuration and a set of evals rather than another system to run.

We're looking for someone strong in computer science fundamentals and pragmatic about production; someone who cares as much about access control, cost visibility, and whether an agent's answers are actually correct as about shipping the first working demo. You should be comfortable being the person who says a vendor is the better answer when the data says so, and comfortable owning the alternative when it isn't.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Six or more years building production software, including web application development, with time spent operating what you built and not only shipping it.
  • Experience architecting, designing, and developing distributed systems, and a clear account of the tradeoffs you chose and what you would do differently.
  • Depth in at least one general purpose programming language, and the fluency to move between others: C/C++, Python, C#, Java, Node, Go, Ruby.
  • Hands-on experience taking LLM applications all the way to production, not only prototypes; retrieval-augmented generation, tool and function calling, and agent orchestration, plus the operational work that follows them.
  • Working knowledge of AWS, ideally including Bedrock or a comparable managed model service, and an understanding of how model spend actually accumulates.
  • Experience implementing authentication, authorization, and role-based access control (SSO, OIDC, SAML) across more than one application, in systems that had to pass security or compliance review.
  • Fluency evaluating and observing non-deterministic systems: test sets, regression checks, tracing, and cost and latency monitoring.
  • Experience integrating with SaaS business systems over their APIs; CRM, ITSM, or support platforms; and working directly with the people who live in them.
  • A track record of raising the level around you: design and code review, written designs other engineers actually use, and mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Nice to have: vector search and retrieval infrastructure, data pipelines, or prior work on internal platforms and developer experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own the design, build, and operation of a shared model gateway on AWS Bedrock; routing, model selection, quotas, cost controls, and observability for every AI application at Tive.
  • Own the common platform services those applications depend on: authentication, role-based access control, and audit logging that holds up to security and compliance review.
  • Build and maintain the knowledge layer; ingestion, chunking, retrieval, and freshness; that grounds agents in Tive's own documentation, product data, and support history.
  • Stand up evaluation harnesses and regression suites so agent quality is measured rather than assumed, and so changes to prompts, models, or retrieval are safe to ship.
  • Partner with the teams delivering the digital business roadmap; Customer Portal, Service Desk, and CRM; to embed AI in those products on shared infrastructure instead of three separate stacks.
  • Set the patterns, libraries, and documentation that let other engineers add an AI capability without rebuilding auth, retrieval, or logging first, and hold the line on them in review.
  • Weigh build-versus-buy tradeoffs honestly, make the case with data when a vendor is the better answer, and own the build when it isn't.
  • Design, write, test, deliver, maintain, and improve software, and support the digital business systems it runs on.
  • Conduct code and design reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable, and scalable solutions, and mentor the engineers whose work you review.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex issues in production environments, and be accountable for the reliability of the platform you own.
  • Research and evaluate emerging models, tools, and practices in a field that moves quickly, and separate what is genuinely useful from what is noise.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, runbooks, and release notes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and develop new features and enhancements, and manage your own priorities and deliverables with little supervision.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and learning within the software development team, and assist with recruitment and onboarding as needed.
