About Ursa Health
We’re Ursa Health, an 11-year-old, growth stage company. We straddle the line between being a software company and a tech-enabled consultancy, turning healthcare data into actionable insights. We’ve developed our healthcare data platform over the last decade combining deep industry IP with a flexible and powerful software product. Thanks to our unique, methodical approach, we’re able to make sense of data in a way nobody else in the industry is able to – generating analytics that are trusted enough to change how care is delivered.
We’re not talking about fancy black-box models or AI agents, although we do that too. Simply the work of taking healthcare data in its messy, raw format and turning it into results that accurately describe what is actually happening to patients; very few organizations can do this well. And, because of that, we serve as the core data and analytics engine for many of the most innovative companies in healthcare.
About the Role
We’re growing our team and are looking for software engineers who can build upon our existing tooling and help take our software in new directions. Experience in the healthcare industry is not necessary. We’ll invest in you to develop your knowledge of the relevant data structures and the various business/clinical/operational concepts.
We’re primarily a JavaScript shop; Node.js in the back, React in the front. We’ve moved into AI, both as a means to do our own work and as an engine powering some of our user-facing software applications. At the same time, we have a frank understanding of the boundaries of AI’s usefulness. We’re looking for software engineers who understand the capabilities of and have worked with the latest LLMs, but who also remember what life was like before Claude Code and whose hard-earned taste and instincts can complement these tools.
Data is at the center of all we do, and we believe the relational database is still the best tool to organize it. SQL expertise is essential, as is the ability to think in terms of relational databases.
Ursa Health is fully remote. We’ve been fully remote since our founding and have a strong remote-only culture. Hours are flexible. You’ll be able – and indeed expected – to turn off Slack for hours at a time in order to get into a flow to solve the most difficult problems.
You’ll be reporting directly to the CTO. Versatility, adaptability, and creativity are key. Even though we’ve been in business for 11 years, we still have a small, nimble team. We don’t work crazy start-up hours but we expect to get a lot done across a range of needs in the hours that we work.
If you want to apply to join our team, send us your resume along with an example of your work, preferably JavaScript and pre-2024. We’ll send you a puzzle to complete, which shouldn’t take more than a couple hours. After that, you’ll interview with our team.
We're excited to meet candidates who are already authorized to work in the U.S., as we are currently unable to provide visa sponsorship.
Ursa Health is an equal opportunity employer. We are passionate about achieving diversity on our team because we know that different backgrounds and points of view fuel innovation and creativity, and will therefore help us reach our goal of making healthcare better and more equitable for all. We foster an inclusive environment where we can celebrate our differences. We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply to this and all of our open positions. All applicants will be considered for employment without consideration of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.
