Engagement Title: Part-Time Communications Contractor, Media & Advocacy

Location / time-zone overlap: Remote

Primary Verra contact: Senior Director, Media & Advocacy

Estimated duration: September 1 – December 31, 2026, with possible extension

Estimated hours: Approximately 10–12 hours per week

Target start date: September 1, 2026

 

The Opportunity. 

Verra is seeking a part-time communications contractor to help the Media & Advocacy team stay ahead of media coverage, reporting, and proactive outreach. This flexible engagement will support timely monitoring, clear coverage summaries, and first-draft media materials.

 

Scope of Work.

·       Conduct daily and weekly media monitoring and clip tracking using Verra’s existing Muck Rack / media-monitoring login.

·       Prepare coverage reports, sentiment summaries, and board-ready reporting materials.

·       Maintain and update journalist and media outlet contact lists.

·       Draft press releases, pitch materials, and related communications materials for Senior Director review and approval before use.

·       Research and identify first-pass proactive story and pitch opportunities.

·       Support proactive journalist outreach and follow-up.

 

 Qualifications and Experience.

·       Experience in communications, media relations, public relations, journalism, advocacy communications, or a related field.

·       Comfort with media monitoring, media database, or reporting tools; Muck Rack or similar platform experience is helpful.

·       Strong writing skills and the ability to draft press materials, pitches, coverage summaries, or briefing notes under direction.

·       Ability to synthesize coverage, spot relevant trends, and identify proactive story opportunities.

·       Strong attention to detail, responsiveness, and ability to work independently against agreed deliverables.

·       Interest in climate, sustainability, carbon markets, environmental policy, or mission-driven communications preferred.

·       Strong written and verbal English communication skills.


Engagement Terms.

This is a part-time independent contractor engagement from September 1 through December 31, 2026, with possible extension based on business need, performance, and available budget. It does not create an employment relationship with Verra.

·       Estimated commitment: approximately 10–12 hours per week.

·       Because this is a contractor engagement, it is not eligible for employee benefits, paid leave, retirement contributions, or other benefits associated with employment.

·       Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment, workspace, internet access, and business expenses.
