Holistic Veterinary Care
Founded by Dr. Gary Richter, a nationally recognized leader in integrative veterinary medicine, Forbes Veterinary Advisor, and author of The Ultimate Pet Health Guide, Holistic Veterinary Care has spent years building something genuinely unique. We're the only clinic in Oakland with a dedicated rehabilitation center for pets, and the only practice in the Bay Area equipped with a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
Now part of the VetnCare community, we're backed by a growing network of hospitals that share our commitment to advanced, high-quality care, while fully preserving the culture and clinical identity that makes this place what it is.
This isn't your typical general practice position. Holistic Veterinary Care focuses on integrative medicine, combining the best of conventional Western medicine with everything that complementary and alternative care has to offer. In addition to mainstream medicine, we offer options including acupuncture, chiropractic, herbal medicine, regenerative medicine, ozone therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, and more. In short, our caseload spans integrative medicine, regenerative treatments, and emerging therapies most practices simply don't offer.
New patient consultations are scheduled for 60 minutes, giving you the time to do the work right. The pace here is intentional, closer to a specialty referral environment than a high-volume GP, so you can focus on quality care without the chaos. Using an integrative approach, you'll see general practice cases including wellness visits, diagnostics, bloodwork, radiography, dentistry, and sedated procedures, so your skills stay broad even as your skills deepen.
A knowledge of holistic/ integrative medicine is preferred but not required. Mentoring is part of what we do, and you will have the opportunity to learn from Dr. Richter’s decades of experience as well as support to become certified in the holistic modalities that most interest you.
The Role: Associate Veterinarian
This is more than just an associate veterinarian position — it's an invitation to grow into an integrative practitioner with a nationally recognized leader in the field, with access to therapies and mentorship you won't find anywhere else in the Bay Area.

Our Team:
Our clinical team includes Dr. Richter, a CCRP certified human physical therapist, a part-time acupuncturist, and a part-time chiropractor. Several team members bring deep experience from human healthcare and specialized veterinary training. Hiring decisions here are shaped as much by cultural fit as clinical skill. We're a collaborative, low-drama, patient-first group, and that matters.
What You Bring:
