Founded in 1981, The Public Law Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free legal services to low income residents and other nonprofits in Orange County. Last year, Public Law Center staff and volunteers provided over 65,000 hours of free legal services in handling over 4,500 cases benefiting low-income children, adults and seniors. The estimated value of this work is roughly $60 million in just the past three years. Our services include counseling, individual representation, community education and strategic policy advocacy and impact litigation to challenge societal injustices.

About the role

The Public Law Center (PLC) is seeking a dedicated and organized individual to join our team. The Facilities Support Specialist will provide crucial administrative support to the Office Manager, assisting with the coordination of office operations, facilities management, and addressing staff needs. This is an in-office position, requiring onsite presence Monday through Friday to ensure smooth daily operations and effective communication.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate and schedule professional services such as office cleaning, pest control, gardening/tree trimming, document shredding, plumbing etc.
  • Receive and process work order requests; ensure problems are resolved quickly.
  • Facilitates maintenance of office equipment including cleaning, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Provide clerical support when needed to assist clerical staff with assigned administrative duties such as answering phones, sorting and distributing mail, and preparing documents.
  • Provide back-up front desk coverage to cover rest breaks, vacations, sick days etc. 
  • Coordinate and/or performs space-use analysis and similar assessments for facilities.
  • Maintain inventory of office supplies; order new supplies as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly office environment. 
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding employees. 
  • Maintain office files; implement an efficient system for other staff to access files and records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 
  • This position requires attendance at meetings, both remote and in person, in and outside the Public Law Center’s offices, and requires being located in Southern California. Must have ability to work at the organization’s offices in Santa Ana, CA, and travel to work sites located throughout Orange County, CA. In addition, travel to Los Angeles County and other neighboring counties may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one to three years of administrative and clerical experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of office management procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 
Salary & Benefits
  • Compensation dependent on experience; range of $27.00/hour to $29.00/hour

The pay range for this role is:
