Power TakeOff is a software and implementation company driven by making an environmental impact by helping business customers reduce their energy consumption. Since its founding in 2007, Power TakeOff’s products and services have centered around the use of interval electric data to help the business market better understand and reduce their usage and to use software and analytics as tools to cost-effectively deliver services at utility-scale. While our end-user participants are businesses, much of our work is generated from utility-scale contracts with over 20 utilities across North America.

Postion Summary

A Business Analyst within the Value Creation team at Power TakeOff analyzes data to identify effective ways of boosting organizational efficiency. Using data, they derive logical conclusions and forecasts for implementing strategies that can improve business performance and the impact of Power TakeOff.

The Job

  • Create and follow a research plan for answering tactical or strategic business 
    questions in consultation with or as directed by the supervisor.
  • Conduct secondary research on topics assigned to inform management about 
    market developments, stretch benchmarking of internal processes, and 
    technology trends
  • Analyze data (large or small datasets) to derive logical conclusions about value-creating opportunities and gaps in the business. 
    • Understand the variables in the dataset and their relation to the business 
      operations as well as the industry
  • Conduct primary research, e.g. interviews with stakeholders, to understand as-is 
    business processes and drivers.
  • Write high-quality business reports in the form of documents, presentations or 
    emails to inform senior management about opportunities and risks in the 
    business.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to progress on assigned 
    research and analysis tasks. 
  • Participate in team meetings, summarize conversations and take excellent notes .
  • Develop excellent working relations with colleagues and stakeholders in the organization to understand critical business drivers and challenges in-depth.

Skills and Competencies
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Excellent report-writing and presentation skills in English.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them. 
  • A track record of following through on commitments.
  • Competency in day-to-day office technologies like word processors, spreadsheets, presentations and remote collaboration tools like Zoom. 
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Technical skills in data analysis, including: 
    • Database skills like SQL;
    • Scripting skills for data manipulation, such as Python, VB scripting, etc.;
    • Advanced spreadsheet skills – e.g. pivot tables, lookups and macros; and  
    • Comfortable working with Business Intelligence tools like Power BI or Quicksight
  • Good to have business acumen and financial assessment skills.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience working in a technical domain or as a corporate development analyst. 
    • Energy and utilities or experience a plus
    • Demand side management (DSM) experience a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical stream like Engineering, Mathematics or Science (e.g., Environmental Science) with a quantitative focus.  
  • Business or finance-related coursework or related work experience a plus. 
  • Ability to conduct business in English with fluency. 
  • Must be located in Canada, and eligible to work in a full-time capacity in Canada.
Location+ Travel
  • This is a remote position and a fully remote company. 
  • Power TakeOff does have ties to Denver, Colorado, and Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, with a number of employees based in those markets. 

  • Travel not required, but Power TakeOff does have events on occasion and pays for travel and accommodations for them.

The pay range for this role is:

70,000 - 90,000 CAD per year (Remote - Canada)
