Position Summary

The Director of Program Delivery is responsible for the successful delivery of our solutions and achievement of our energy savings goals. As part of the Programs Department, the Director of Program Delivery collaborates closely with the Director of Client Success and Director of Portfolio Management, with a focus on implementation, team leadership, operational excellence, and collaboration. As the leader of a large team currently at ~90 employees (including 4 direct reports), the Director of Program Delivery must be dynamic, energetic, organized, motivational, and committed, with both strategic and tactical acumen. 


This position will benefit from someone with deep experience in the energy efficiency / demand side management (DSM) industry, a track record of meeting or exceeding significant energy savings goals, and a demonstrated ability to foster team cohesion, collaboration, and development in a fully remote environment. The ideal candidate will be highly self motivated, inspired to contribute meaningfully to the company’s mission, a high-level, polished, and personable communicator, and passionate about building and leading high-performing teams. They will also have a strong commitment to data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement as well as adaptability to rapid growth and change. With the majority of the portfolio comprised of the Virtual Commissioning (VCx) program, experience with program designs that entail cold outreach and customer engagement via phone calls, emails, and virtual meetings is a high priority.


Directors are senior leadership members of the company, and as such are responsible for balancing our client, team, and company needs in their decisions and guidance. The Directors work collectively with the Executive Team to meet the company’s strategic goals through their expertise and exceptional team leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery Team Leadership

  • Lead and oversee a team of Program Delivery Managers/Leads, providing direction, support, mentorship, motivation, and resources to ensure that they and their direct reports are effective, challenged, and fulfilled in their roles
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions, using sound judgement on what information and feedback to gather and from whom, and when to seek input and approvals from the Executive team and/or others
  • Communicate effectively across the organization and especially with the Program Delivery team - serving as the face of the team, welcoming new team members, soliciting feedback to inform continuous improvement, sharing strategic vision and key updates with the full team, and conducting change management to roll out new or updated tools, processes, or policies
  • Direct, enable, and encourage the team in meeting and exceeding programmatic goals, emphasizing individual and team accomplishment, impact, development, and growth
  • Track and refine KPIs for the Program Delivery team for your own use as well as for the use of all team members, to understand performance over time and identify areas requiring improvement
  • Efficiently and thoroughly plan and execute the deployment of key initiatives
  • Implement performance management for the Program Delivery team with the support of Human Resources
  • Foster a culture of high performance, fun, motivation, professionalism, collaboration, support, problem-solving, accountability, and continuous improvement

Operational Excellence

  • Effectively execute the company’s strategy related to program delivery
  • Efficiently deliver energy savings and other contract deliverables that reliably meet or exceed goals
  • Build and maintain a deep understanding of all aspects of program operations, developing and using tracking metrics and KPIs throughout the project flow to identify and deploy best practices as well as to identify and address areas for improvement
  • Honestly identify and assess performance issues that may arise, escalating and addressing them as needed to resolve them quickly and appropriately
  • Encourage reflection and feedback for continuous improvement, implementing lessons learned in project management to maximize operational efficiency
  • Lead or support the deployment of tests, trials, and pilots to identify best practices or innovate new solutions
  • Document, implement, and refine tools, processes, and policies to yield results that are high quality and replicable, and organize documentation and resources logically for effective use and reference
  • Facilitate the training of the Program Delivery team in proper procedures and the cross-sharing of best practices from high performers
  • Attend meetings with utility and/or prime implementer clients as needed to receive feedback and/or report on program delivery

Collaboration

  • Collaborate heavily across the organization in support of business goals
  • Within the Programs Department, collaborate closely with the 
    • Director of Client Success on topics such as contracting, new program launches, and communication flow with clients; and
    • Director of Portfolio Management on topics such as team structure and composition, employee allocations and reporting lines, technical support resources, savings forecasting, employee onboarding and training, and invoicing
  • Collaborate with the Value Creation team on identifying, testing, implementing, and measuring operational efficiency initiatives and/or new approaches
  • Collaborate with the Analytics and Data Management Department on topics such as analyzing and prospecting accounts within utility portfolios and savings forecasting
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on programmatic marketing needs, case studies for proposals or collateral, conference presentations, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Product Commercialization team on launching, implementing, and productizing new solutions
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on talent acquisition, employee engagement, performance management, and other HR issues
  • Communicate and report out regularly to the Executive Team on program performance, status updates, key flags, and issues of strategic importance
  • Contribute to the formulation, communication, and implementation of company strategies
  • Ensure accurate dissemination of key information across applicable teams
  • Respond quickly to requests from the Executive Team and/or Board

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the energy industry, preferably in utility DSM, energy efficiency, or demand response
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing commercial energy efficiency programs, especially programs that include contact center / call center services or entail cold outreach and customer engagement via phone calls, emails, and virtual meetings
  • Strong understanding of utility operations, regulatory environment, and market dynamics related to energy efficiency and demand response programs
  • Proven excellence as a project manager, leading teams through planning, organization, communication, and successful implementation
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to handle a wide range of tasks, prioritize workload, and communicate professionally and effectively even under the pressure of time and/or budget constraints, particularly in a remote environment
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, analytical, and data-driven decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations toward positive business outcomes
  • Big picture vision with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with a range of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe
  • Proficiency with Salesforce (or similar CRM) and its uses for data management of energy efficiency programs including tracking of outreach activity, project and savings data, team performance, dashboards, reports, etc.

Location and Travel

Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company with no physical office location. However, many employees are based in two hubs in the areas around Denver, CO and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Residence in one of these two hubs is desired but not required, and relocation assistance will not be provided for the position.


Occasional travel is anticipated for this position for approximately quarterly in-person management meetings and ad-hoc needs such as client visits or conference attendance. Power TakeOff will cover the associated accommodation and travel expenses for any travel that may be required for the role. 

Compensation and Benefits

The expected compensation, including base salary and bonus, for employees residing in the U.S. is between $130,000 and $180,000. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
