Position Summary

The Director of Commercialization is responsible for identifying, vetting, developing, and piloting new energy efficiency and demand response solutions with utility partners to solve their goals and gaps. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in utility program design and product development, P&L management, project management, and strategic planning, based on a deep understanding of energy efficiency and demand response initiatives. This role will play a pivotal part in contributing to Power TakeOff’s growth from the commercialization of the company’s new product offerings.

Directors are senior leadership members of the company, and as such are responsible for balancing the client, team, and company needs in their decisions and guidance. The Directors work collectively with the Executive Team to meet the company’s strategic goals through their expertise and exceptional client management, team management, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercialization strategy for new products and services within the utility DSM industry, focusing on nonresidential energy efficiency and demand response solutions that extend and diversify Power TakeOff’s offerings

  • Manage the end-to-end commercialization process from concept development to pilot testing to full-scale implementation, ensuring alignment with client needs, market demand, business objectives, and regulatory requirements

  • P&L responsibility for the Commercialization department

  • Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure on-time and within-budget delivery of commercialization initiatives

  • Make strategic decisions to balance project objectives with fiscal responsibility, contributing to the company’s growth and profitability

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Executive, Programs, Value Creation, Analytics and Data Management, Business Development, Marketing, Software, and Product to drive the successful launch and adoption of new offerings

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the commercialization team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and success

  • Monitor market activity to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to inform product development and commercialization strategies while sharing key insights across the organization

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including utility partners, regulatory agencies, industry associations, and technology vendors to support successful commercialization efforts and support the company’s visibility and reputation

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in product development processes, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality, and client and customer satisfaction

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercialization, product development, or project management roles within the energy industry, preferably in utility DSM, energy efficiency, or demand response, and preferably in the nonresidential sector

  • Proven track record of successfully bringing new products or services to market, from ideation to commercialization, with a focus on driving business growth and customer value

  • Strong understanding of utility operations, regulatory environment, and market dynamics related to energy efficiency and demand response programs

  • Proven track record of designing and delivering high performing programs that are responsive to client needs and address internal and external strategic objectives

  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable commercialization strategies and new revenue streams

  • Experience managing portfolios of work exceeding $500,000

  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

  • Big picture vision with attention to detail

  • Strong relationships and references within the utility industry

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization

  • Self-motivation to deliver with excellence and grow professionally

Location and Travel

Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company with no physical office location. However, many employees are based in two hubs in the areas around Denver, CO and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Residence in one of these two hubs is desired but not required, and relocation assistance will not be provided for the position.


Regular travel is not required for this position, but occasional travel may be required. Power TakeOff will cover the associated accommodation and travel expenses for any such travel. 

Compensation and Benefits

The total expected compensation range, including base salary and any bonus potential, for employees residing in the U.S. is between $120,000 and $150,000 USD per year, depending on experience. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
