Position Summary

Power TakeOff is seeking a Senior Strategic Energy Management Coach to work with commercial businesses across the U.S. to drive energy efficiency and foster a culture of continuous energy improvement.


The Strategic Energy Management Coach position is central to our utility programs. Coaches develop energy saving measures through smart meter data analysis, guiding participants to make persistent operational and behavioral energy-saving changes. Customer engagement, strategic planning, and implementation is completed entirely through virtual meetings and workshops with support from our technical team as needed.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Strategic Energy Management Coach will deliver high-impact strategic energy management coaching to medium-to-large commercial and small industrial customers through virtual engagements. The Senior Strategic Energy Management Coach will measure their success through customers actively participating in SEM activities, delivering energy savings through behavioral and operational improvements and ensuring engagement and program value. They have the following goals and success criteria:

      Ownership of a portfolio of customer accounts across multiple utility contracts

      Delivery of kWh savings to customers through project identification and implementation

      Leading effective customer workshops and education initiatives

      Seamless program delivery and documentation

      Leadership across all program management tasks

Relationship Ownership

      Taking on stand-alone participants with little to no support from internal teams

      Owning utility contracts, providing a seamless and positive customer experience

      Efficiently and effectively managing all project tasks

Customer Engagement and Coaching

      Building strong customer relationships and guiding participants through SEM curriculum

      Leading virtual workshops, one-on-one coaching sessions, and employee engagement activities

      Facilitating culture change by integrating SEM practices into business operations

      Encouraging collaboration across departments at customer sites to drive behavioral change

Energy Management Planning and Execution

      Conducting baseline assessments of current energy practices

      Developing energy action plans with site-specific goals and prioritized actions

      Collaborating with customers to implement low- and no-cost energy-saving measures

      Collaborating with Power TakeOff’s Technical team to identify and implement low- and no-cost energy savings measures with customers

      Supporting ongoing goal setting and tracking through regular performance reviews

Data-Driven Decision Making

      Achieve kWh savings goals as outlined by the team

      Analyzing interval electricity usage data (15-, 30-, and 60-minute resolution)

      Identifying key drivers of energy use and opportunities for savings

      Partnering with M&V teams to evaluate and communicate performance results

      Drafting monthly updates, year-end reports, and success stories

Internal Collaboration and Program Support

      Contributing to internal continuous improvement efforts and resource development

      Supporting participant onboarding, engagement tracking, and data integration

      Collaborating with outreach teams to recruit and onboard new customers

Key Qualifications

      5+ years of experience in energy efficiency, energy advising, energy auditing, HVAC design or commercial/industrial facility operations OR a degree in Engineering and 3+ years of experience

      Technical knowledge of commercial and/or industrial facility systems (e.g., HVAC, automated controls, lighting)

      Exceptional project management skills

      3+ years of people or project management experience

      CEM certification or equivalent is preferred

      Strong analytical skills and experience with data interpretation

      Proficient skills with Salesforce and other CRM tools

      Excellent facilitation and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences

      Experience in adult learning, behavioral engagement, or organizational change

      Comfortable working independently in a virtual environment

      Background in construction, engineering, or building operations a plus

Location and Travel

Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company with no physical office location. However, many employees are based in two hubs in the areas around Denver, CO and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Residence in one of these two hubs is desired but not required, and relocation assistance will not be provided for the position. This position is eligible for employment in the United States.


Travel is not expected for this position. Power TakeOff will cover the associated accommodation and travel expenses for any such travel.

Compensation and Benefits

The total expected salary compensation range for employees residing in the U.S. is between $85,000 and $110,000 USD per year, depending on experience. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
