Since its founding in 2007, Power TakeOff’s products and services have centered around the use of interval electric data to help the business market better understand and reduce their usage and to use software and analytics as tools to cost-effectively deliver services at utility-scale. Position Summary
The Senior Energy Efficiency Engineering Manager will oversee Power TakeOff’s technical teams, leading the direct implementation of Virtual Commissioning (VCx™) and Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM™) programs for high-value utility clients and supporting our Program Delivery staff to ensure successful results. This role emphasizes leadership in recommissioning, energy efficiency program delivery, and team management, providing expertise in energy efficiency strategies that maximize customer satisfaction and energy savings. This role reports into Power TakeOff’s Director of Portfolio Management.
Goals and Success Criteria
Program Delivery – Virtual Commissioning and Virtual Strategy Energy Management Technical Implementation (70%)
Goals: Lead the technical implementation of energy efficiency savings to drive maximum energy savings and customer satisfaction for Power TakeOff’s Virtual Commissioning and Virtual Strategic Energy Management Programs applying advanced knowledge of building recommissioning, building automation and controls, and other energy efficiency opportunities.
Success Criteria: Success is achieved when energy savings targets are met, per-site savings increase over time, customer satisfaction is high, and customers provide positive feedback on program delivery effectiveness.
Leading Technical Success at Power TakeOff (20%)
Goals: Work with the technical team to train the Program Delivery Team with in-depth knowledge of commercial building energy efficiency and recommissioning practices, supporting high-impact customer interactions and ongoing team development. Serve as Power TakeOff’s technical guru for all technical matters related to recommissioning and building energy efficiency.
Success Criteria: Success is demonstrated when Programs Team members and technical staff show confidence in engaging clients, achieving energy savings, and delivering high-quality results, driven by the Senior Energy Efficiency Engineering Manager’s training and guidance.
Management of Engineering & Technical Staff (10%)
Responsibilities: Manage and mentor a high-performing engineering and technical team, fostering a positive team environment that meets program goals and high customer service standards.
Success Criteria: The team is well-supported, with high morale and demonstrate professional growth and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities
Customer Engagement & Virtual Commissioning Implementation:
- Lead customer meetings alongside Energy Advisors and vSEM coaches to implement Virtual Commissioning and Virtual Strategic Energy Management, providing expert technical guidance and troubleshooting complex issues as they arise.
- Work with Energy Advisors and Customer Outreach Specialists to ensure that client engagements are optimized for energy savings and customer satisfaction.
Technical Leadership & Team Training:
- Develop and deliver advanced technical trainings in recommissioning, energy efficiency, and Virtual Commissioning for engineering and Programs team members.
- Identify training needs and opportunities for professional development within the team, fostering an environment of continuous learning and expertise sharing.
Management of Engineering & Technical Team:
- Oversee day-to-day management of engineering and technical staff, including workload distribution, performance evaluations, and career development.
- Support team members with problem-solving and technical expertise, ensuring team alignment with program delivery goals and customer engagement standards.
- Cultivate a collaborative, high-performing team culture that encourages innovation and accountability.
Program Resource Development:
- Generate and manage technical resources that enhance program delivery, ensuring that both the Programs and engineering teams have up-to-date tools and insights.
- Use data insights to refine resources and adjust program content, based on evolving client needs and team feedback.
- Develop new best practices for the Program Delivery team to deliver low-touchpoint energy savings opportunities to customers.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
- Work closely with the M&V, Value Creation, and Program Delivery Teams to streamline processes, share knowledge, and identify areas for program improvement.
- Support general enablement efforts, coordinating with other technical experts to align on best practices and elevate team-wide service quality.
Key Skills
- Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in commercial building energy efficiency practices, with a particular focus on commercial building recommissioning, HVAC, lighting, and building automation systems and controls. Knowledge of industrial energy efficiency is considered an asset.
- Customer Management: Skilled in building and maintaining strong customer relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and responsiveness to customer needs during program delivery.
- Client-Focused Communication: Excellent communication abilities tailored to customer needs. Adept at explaining technical concepts in accessible terms to enhance understanding and collaboration.
- Leadership and Team Management: Proven experience managing technical teams, with a focus on mentorship, workload balance, and skill development.
- Analytical Acumen: Skilled in using data to enhance program delivery and drive decision-making in customer interactions.
- Innovation and Adaptability: Proactive in identifying opportunities for program improvement and adapting strategies to optimize outcomes.
The following professional designations are considered desirable:
- Professional engineering designation
- LEED certification
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP)
- Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) or Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA)
- Other certificates as they relate to building science or energy efficiency
Location & Travel
- This is a remote position and a fully remote company.
- Power TakeOff does have ties to Denver, Colorado, and Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, with a number of employees based in those markets.
- Travel not required, but Power TakeOff does have events on occasion and pays for travel and accommodations for them.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected base salary for employees residing in the U.S. is between $90,000 and $110,000 USD per year, depending on experience. Power TakeOff maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
