Thousands of lives are on the line every day due to abortion. Are you ready to stand up and change hearts to stop it? We are defenders on a mission to recruit, equip, and deploy students around Michigan to become passionate and professional social reformers. We won’t stop until abortion is unthinkable. Since 2005, we have grown from a group of volunteers to a team of dozens of powerhouse activists. Each team member is bright, strategic, and dedicated to protecting the unborn.

This position can be filled by a part-time or full-time applicant.


For your first semester on campus, you will be paired with an experienced Campus Activist to receive on-the-job training. Please note that your training location may be further away from the campus with which you are working.



What you'll do


A Protect Life Michigan (PLM) Campus Activist carries out the mission of PLM by working one-on-one with campus groups and pro-life students. The campus activist’s purpose is to develop pro-life students into leaders in the pro-life movement through mentorship, coaching, and service. The Campus Activist will work with their assigned college(s), and, when needed, travel statewide to assist students in other regions. Campus Activists report to a Campus Activist Supervisor.


Recruit: The Campus Activist will assist student leaders in creating and growing Protect

Life groups across Michigan.


Examples of this include:

  • Regularly visit Protect Life campus meetings and events.
  • Bring new pro-life students into the club via campus recruitment, clipboarding, and attending recruitment events.

Equip: The Campus Activist will seek to equip pro-life students to better communicate

the pro-life message in a loving and persuasive way.


Examples of this include:

  • Create and execute a strategy with other assigned campus staff and the College Program Manager to reach the campus with the pro-life message.
  • Conduct trainings and workshops on campus.
  • Organize and participate in regular outreach on campus.

Network: The Campus Activist will work to create an environment of collaboration and

unity between students and the pro-life movement.


Examples of this include:

  • Host team-building events and activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between student groups and other pro-life organizations.
  • Actively encourage students to pursue full-time work in the pro-life movement.


Qualifications

  • Commitment to the pro-life movement and the mission of Protect Life Michigan. 
  • Ability to commit to the position for at least one year. 
  • Passionate and positive view of support-raising and/or fundraising, experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person, and in writing, including public speaking.
  • A positive attitude, attention to detail, and ability to organize effectively. 
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.
  • Living within 20 miles of the university is preferred.
  • Flexible work schedule, and the ability to work nights/weekends as necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Applications, Canva, Mailchimp, popular social media platforms, and graphic design (preferred).
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and productively.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Experience in a campus pro-life group is preferred.  


Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits are determined by the needs of the individual, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include: 

  • After completing 1 year of work, eligibility for employer-matched Simple IRA.

  • Protect Life Michigan is a support-raising organization. The salary and all expenses associated with this position will be fundraised by the candidate. Protect Life Michigan will provide training and coaching in order to help the candidate reach full support and will pay the candidate while they raise support. We have an excellent track record of helping job candidates reach full support: 85% of our candidates have reached full support within 2-3 months.
