The Opportunity

We are looking for a hands-on DevOps Lead who enjoys keeping production systems reliable while building the next generation of operational tooling. You will help move AI initiatives beyond experimentation into secure, measurable, production-ready automation and improvements across Software Operations.

You will join a 16-person DevOps and SRE team supporting global IoT and connected-vehicle platforms, reporting directly to the Head of DevOps and SRE. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, working closely with engineering, security, and operations teams around the world.

This role is based in Bucharest, with a hybrid work model requiring at least 2 days per week in the office (The Bridge 3, Sector 6).

Key Responsibilities

Balance engineering improvements and operational responsibilities, with an approximate 70/30 allocation between engineering improvements, automation, and AI initiatives versus production operations. This is a flexible guideline rather than a fixed weekly split and may shift during critical releases or major incidents. You will take ownership of prioritizing improvements and establishing sustainable boundaries for operational work in collaboration with your manager.

70% — Automation, Continuous Improvement & AI

  • Design, build, and maintain automation that removes repetitive operational tasks and increases the efficiency and consistency of DevOps and SRE workflows.
  • Develop AI-assisted tools and agent-based workflows for incident triage, troubleshooting, knowledge retrieval, operational reporting, and runbook assistance.
  • Connect LLM services and internal systems through APIs and orchestration tooling, with validation, access controls, auditability, and human approval for sensitive actions.
  • Improve CI/CD, GitOps, infrastructure as code, cloud platform tooling, security controls, and observability.
  • Own improvements from proof of concept through production, assessing reliability, adoption, and measurable operational impact.
  • Collaborate across Software Operations and Engineering to identify valuable automation opportunities and enable practical AI adoption.

30% — Production Operations, Reliability & On-Call

  • Help maintain the reliability, performance, security, and availability of production cloud services.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, support deployments and changes, contribute to root-cause analysis, and prevent recurring issues.
  • Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation, including response outside normal working hours when rostered. Overtime worked is compensated in line with company policy and applicable law.

Qualifications

  • Senior experience in DevOps, Cloud, Platform Engineering, SRE, or infrastructure automation, including production ownership.
  • Hands-on cloud experience (preferably Google Cloud Platform), Linux, Kubernetes (ideally GKE), and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Experience with CI/CD, Git-based delivery, Jenkins, and GitOps principles; familiarity with FluxCD or Argo CD.
  • Strong scripting and development skills, especially Python, including REST APIs and programmatic system integrations.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, ELK, or cloud-native observability.
  • Practical experience building or integrating LLM-powered tools or AI-assisted automation, shown through delivered work or meaningful personal projects.
  • Understanding of production incident response, secure automation, reliability, and safe change management at scale.
  • Strong ownership, analytical thinking, and professional proficiency in English for collaboration with global teams.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with LLM APIs, agent/tool-calling, RAG, Model Context Protocol (MCP), or orchestration tools such as LibreChat and n8n.
  • Experience with GCP-native services, Cloud Build, Secret Manager, cloud networking, PostgreSQL, or Redis.
  • Familiarity with messaging (Kafka, MQTT, RabbitMQ), ingress, and security tooling (NGINX, Cloud Armor).

Why Aeris?

  • This is a high-impact engineering role: you will design and deliver automation and AI solutions used by Software Operations teams, not just prototypes.
  • You will have the autonomy to propose improvements, influence technical decisions, and help shape how AI is adopted in day-to-day operations.
  • You will gain exposure to globally deployed, business-critical cloud platforms and collaborate with experienced engineers across functions and regions.
