Bark Technologies, Inc

HR Generalist

Founded in 2015 by a dad of two, Bark is an online safety company that helps families protect their kids online and in real life. Over the past decade, we’ve transformed into the industry leader of safer tech for children, garnering recognition from TIME Magazine, Wired, The New York Times, Forbes, and countless other publications.

We’re at the forefront of the online safety revolution, designing and building smart devices that families need with parental controls that actually work. Our Bark Phone, Bark Watch, Bark Home, and Bark app are enabling today’s parents to help keep their kids safe like never before — and we’re just getting started.

Bark is also deeply committed to education and community impact. Through our Bark Community Partners program, we work with schools, nonprofits, and local organizations to provide online safety resources, training, tools, and safer technology to families and educators.

At the heart of Bark is our hard-working team of remote employees who are passionate about our mission. We care about our work, each other, and building a safer digital world each and every day.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 DOE

The role:

As the second member of our HR team, you will have the opportunity to partner closely with our Sr. Director of HR across the full range of HR work — from day-to-day operations to helping shape and build our people programs as we scale. This is a hands-on role with real strategic input on a lean team where your work will be felt!

What you’ll do:

HR Operations & Systems

  • Support the build-out and configuration of HR programs and workflows
  • Manage and improve core people operations processes and documentation, ensuring workflows are clear, compliant, and employee-friendly
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity across systems
  • Participate in regular documentation and compliance audits; identify and improve inefficient processes

Recruiting

  • Coordinate full-cycle recruiting: job postings, interview scheduling, candidate communication, and offer logistics
  • Partner with hiring managers to ensure a consistent, high-quality candidate experience

Talent & Compliance

  • Support employees and managers across the full employee lifecycle — onboarding, role changes, offboarding, policy interpretation, and leave administration
  • Serve as first point of contact for employee questions, routing and resolving routine inquiries with good judgment
  • Support the Sr. Director on performance review cycle logistics, tracking, and communications
  • Contribute to how we design and evolve talent programs over time
  • Monitor and help maintain compliance across 25+ states, including policy updates and required notices

Vendor, Benefits & Payroll

  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for benefits vendors and HR partners
  • Support benefits and payroll administration, open enrollment, and life event processing
  • Educate employees on available benefits and coordinate with vendors on communications and resources

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Enjoy partnership — you build real trust with the people you support and don't just transact
  • Operate with ownership — strong judgment, follow-through, and no waiting to be told what to do.
  • Are energized by ambiguity — fast-moving environments and shifting priorities feel like opportunity, not chaos
  • Communicate clearly and warmly — you can explain a policy to an employee and coach a manager on a new process with equal ease, especially in writing
  • Have low ego — you're here to make the function and the team better. No task is too small if it helps the team.
  • Are genuinely excited to help build something — Bark has a strong HR foundation, and we are excited to take it to the next level

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of progressive HR experience
  • Experience supporting multiple people functions such as employee relations, payroll, benefits, onboarding, HR administration, and recruiting support
  • Background in a startup, high-growth, or fast-paced environment strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HR compliance basics — employment law, record-keeping, and confidentiality
  • Experience with HRIS platforms (bonus points if it’s Rippling!)
  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • Equity stake in Bark
  • Paid time off
  • Paid sick time
  • Health Benefits:
    • Medical
