About the role

We are seeking a strategic, results-driven Director of Engineering to lead the technology vision and execution for our eCommerce platform. This leader will own the architecture, scalability, and performance of our digital ecosystem, enabling business growth across acquisition, conversion, and retention.


This role blends technical leadership with business strategy, requiring a strong ability to align engineering initiatives with revenue goals, customer experience, and operational excellence.

Reporting to the VP of eCommerce, you will oversee engineering teams, external partners, and technical strategy to execute against our digital roadmap


What you'll do


Technology Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and lead the long-term technical vision for the eCommerce platform
  • Design scalable, secure, and high-performing system architectures
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to support growth and innovation
  • Establish best practices in system design, data architecture, and integrations

Platform Performance & Scalability

  • Own site reliability, uptime, and performance at scale
  • Ensure the platform supports high traffic, transaction volume, and global growth
  • Drive improvements in site speed, checkout performance, and mobile experience
  • Oversee incident management and disaster recovery planning

eCommerce Tech Stack & Ecosystem

  • Own and evolve the eCommerce tech stack (Shopify, integrations, middleware, etc.)
  • Oversee integrations across marketing, analytics, payments, and subscription platforms
  • Ensure data integrity, governance, and accessibility across systems
  • Partner with Product and Analytics to enable data-driven decision-making

Experimentation & Innovation

  • Enable a robust experimentation framework for A/B testing and personalization
  • Partner with Marketing and Product to accelerate testing velocity and insights
  • Drive innovation in customer experience, conversion optimization, and personalization

Engineering Excellence & Operations

  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices, CI/CD, and development standards
  • Oversee code quality, testing frameworks, and deployment processes
  • Actively contribute code, participate in code reviews, and support hands-on development alongside the team
  • Manage technical debt and ensure long-term platform sustainability
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and data protection standards

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with eCommerce, Product, Marketing, and Operations to align strategy and execution
  • Translate business goals into technical roadmaps and priorities
  • Manage external agencies, vendors, and development partners

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering organization
  • Develop managers and senior engineers, fostering leadership at all levels
  • Create a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Lead hiring strategy and organizational design


Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of engineering experience, with significant leadership responsibility
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in eCommerce or DTC environments
  • Deep understanding of modern web architecture, APIs, and scalable systems
  • Experience with Shopify or similar platforms and integrated ecosystems
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align technology with revenue goals
  • Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and system performance
