Position Summary:
The Insurance Product and Portfolio Underwriting Analyst is passionate about driving new initiatives and underwriting excellence from start to finish.  The ideal candidate is a collaborative and trusted partner to the insurance, data, technology and revenue teams.  They value underwriting as a craft, leads through influence, and helps to strengthen our underwriting operations as we continue to grow.  Experience should encompass both insurance product and portfolio underwriting disciplines.  

As an Insurance Product and Portfolio Underwriting analyst, you will execute new projects under the guidance of the Insurance leadership team and in close collaboration with leaders across the organization.  Internal and external stakeholders will benefit from your timely project management, open minded collaboration and novel approaches to complex problems. In this role, you will help ensure sound risk selection and underwriting integrity while identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and underwriting outcomes. 

 

You will serve as a key partner across Insurance, Product, Claims, Data, and Operation teams, helping translate underwriting strategy into scalable processes and actionable insights. Additionally, you will provide leadership and oversight for underwriting quality initiatives, risk management, data initiatives and underwriting support operations to ensure alignment with company goals and risk appetite. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead automated and data driven underwriting projects 
  • Manage insurance products across carrier partners 
  • Research growth opportunities and new insurance offerings  
  • Support E&S product development initiatives  
  • Coordinate product implementation activities 
  • Coordinate and collaborate on operational improvements within Insurance and other organizations 
  • Develop expertise across both insurance product and underwriting disciplines 

Required Qualifications:

  • You have B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent. 
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in insurance, underwriting, or commercial insurance product management. 
  • Knowledge of the underwriting discipline and compliance requirements for the full underwriting cycle: both new and renewal business underwriting processes. 
  • Experience with data reporting and automated underwriting technologies and techniques. 
  • You’re passionate about simplifying insurance and novel approaches to underwriting 

Preferred Qualifications (bonus experience):

  • CPCU, ARM, CIC, or Actuarial designations 
  • Familiarity with 3rd party data vendors and integrations 
  • Insurtech experience 
  • Ability to review and analyze legal documents  
  • You’re good at navigating Serff, S&P, ISO and Verisk products, including PAAS and the CLM 

Our interview process:

Our hiring process generally consists of 4 phases. The goal is to provide an opportunity for us to learn more about our candidates while allowing them to get to know us as well!

  • Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with a member of our People Operations team for a phone interview.  This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
  • Phase 2: Selected candidates will be invited to meet with our Hiring Manager for a 2nd interview via Teams video. This interview is designed to be more detail oriented and allows you to learn more about the role and expected to be 30 minutes in length.
  • Phase 3: Top candidates will be invited to participate in an experiential exercise and team member interviews. This will include a project provided in advance along with a 1-hour project deep dive interview conducted with our hiring manager and additional team members. This series is expected to be 1.5 hours in total
  • Phase 4: Final candidates will be invited to the final interview. This interview will include 1:1 meeting with a member of our senior leadership team and is expected to be 30 minutes in length.

  • Annual salary estimated between $110,000-$150,000 based on national data. Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements and possess additional relevant experience, as outlined in the job description, may be considered for a salary above the midpoint of the above range. Salary is based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; degrees or certifications, etc.
