Cyngn, Inc.

Senior Systems Integration & Test Engineer

About Cyngn, Inc.

Based in Mountain View, CA, Cyngn is a publicly-traded autonomous technology company. We deploy self-driving industrial vehicles -specifically autonomous tuggers -  to factories, warehouses, and other facilities throughout North America. To build this emergent technology, we are looking for innovative, motivated, and experienced leaders to join us and move this field forward. If you like to build, tinker, and create with a team of trusted and passionate colleagues, then Cyngn is the place for you.

Key reasons to join Cyngn:

We are small and big.

With under 100 employees, Cyngn operates with the energy of a startup. On the other hand, we’re publicly traded. This means our employees not only work in close-knit teams with mentorship from company leaders—they also get access to the liquidity of our publicly-traded equity.

We build today and deploy tomorrow.

Our autonomous vehicles aren’t just test concepts—they’re deployed to real clients right now. That means your work will have a tangible, visible impact.

We aren’t robots. We just develop them.

We’re a welcoming, diverse team of sharp thinkers and kind humans. Collaboration and trust drive our creative environment. At Cyngn, everyone’s perspective matters—and that’s what powers our innovation.

About the role

  • We are moving from one autonomous vehicle program to a family of them, and every one of those vehicles has to be proven safe, reliable and manufacturable before a customer drives it. Today our systems engineer writes the requirements and verification plans; nobody yet owns turning those into instrumented campaigns, reliability programs, regulatory evidence and acceptance tests, and then carrying that process to a contract manufacturer. That is this job. You will be the first dedicated test owner on the team, you will set up how we test, and you will grow the function as the product line grows.

What you'll do

Own system-level reliability and test strategy

  • Turn vehicle requirements and V&V plans into test strategy, procedures and instrumented campaigns across EVT, DVT and PVT: drive and steer performance, brake and grade, duty cycle and thermal, environmental, ingress, vibration and HALT.
  • Stand up the reliability program for a new vehicle: duty-cycle profiles, accelerated-life and HALT planning, failure tracking and corrective action, and the evidence that lets a program lock a design.
  • Instrument prototype vehicles — CAN and sensor logging, data acquisition, power and thermal measurement — and turn the data into clear pass/fail and root-cause reports.

Own safety validation and regulatory evidence

  • Derive safety test cases from the hazard analysis and verify every safety function on the vehicle: emergency-stop chains, safety-rated laser scanner fields and speed zones, deadman and pendant link-loss behavior, fault injection and recovery.
  • Lead the regulatory test program for powered industrial trucks and their automation: UL 583 / UL 3100, ANSI/ITSDF B56.5, ISO 3691-4, ISO 13849 / IEC 61508 evidence with our functional-safety advisor, and EMC / electrical-safety pre-compliance with external labs.
  • Be the technical owner in front of test labs and certifiers: plan the submissions, prepare the units and the documentation, and close findings.

Build the test infrastructure

  • Design and build the fixtures and rigs the team runs every day: end-of-line functional tester, safety-function tester, harness continuity / hipot fixture, bench and hardware-in-the-loop regression with firmware, test-track procedures.
  • Automate what repeats — logging, analysis, regression, reporting — so that testing gets faster every phase (Python, CAN tooling, Git).

Take the product to production and to the field

  • Define and run the acceptance test procedure (ATP) on every pre-production and production unit; hand the ATP, fixtures and work instructions to the contract manufacturer and train their technicians.
  • Lead vehicle testing at customer pilot sites; capture field issues, reproduce them, and feed them into the change list.
  • Drive issue triage and root cause with mechanical, electrical, firmware and autonomy engineers; own the test side of design freezes and change control.

What success looks like

First 90 days

  • Know the current vehicle platform, its safety architecture and the existing verification results; own the test lab, tools and data-logging setup.
  • Publish the system-level reliability and regulatory test plan for the vehicle now in development, with the lab, fixtures and procedures lined up ahead of the design-verification build.
  • Establish the weekly triage cadence with firmware, hardware and autonomy.

By six months

  • Design-verification campaign executed with a complete evidence package: safety functions, reliability, EMC and electrical-safety pre-compliance.
  • ATP and end-of-line fixtures built and running on every pre-production vehicle; regulatory submissions in flight.
  • Test plan and instrumentation ready for the next vehicle program before its first prototypes arrive.

By twelve months

  • Production acceptance runs at the contract manufacturer without you present; field pilot issues flow into the change list with data attached.
  • Two vehicle programs share one regression infrastructure and one reporting format; the second technician on the test side is trained on ATP execution.
  • You are the person the team and our certifiers trust to say a vehicle is ready.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems or Robotics Engineering (or equivalent experience) and 7+ years in system integration and test of vehicles or robots.
  • You have owned verification and validation for a safety-relevant electromechanical product — an industrial vehicle, AGV/AMR, forklift, e-mobility platform, automotive ADAS or field robot — from test plan to signed-off evidence.
  • Fluent with vehicle instrumentation: CAN tooling (Vector, PCAN or Kvaser), data acquisition, oscilloscope and DMM, Python or MATLAB for analysis; you design your own fixtures when none exist.
  • Working knowledge of functional safety and industrial-truck standards (ISO 13849 / IEC 61508, ISO 3691-4, UL 583 / UL 3100, ANSI B56.5) and of EMC and electrical-safety testing; you have taken a product through a third-party lab.
  • Hands-on and mobile: you drive and instrument the vehicles yourself, work on the bench with safety controllers, and are happy at a test lab, a customer site or a manufacturer's floor.
  • A clear writer of test plans, procedures and reports, and comfortable presenting evidence — including bad news — to program leads and certifiers.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Material-handling, forklift, AGV/AMR or off-highway vehicle test; prior UL 583 or ISO 3691-4 submissions.
  • Reliability engineering background (HALT/HASS, life testing, DFMEA participation).
  • HIL / bench regression with safety controllers; ROS or autonomy-stack log analysis (perception, localization).
  • Production test: EOL / ATP design and hand-off to a contract manufacturer.
  • Experience with 48 V battery-electric drive systems, motor controllers and contactors.

Benefits & Perks

  • Health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision) through Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, and Guardian, with multiple plan tiers to choose from
  • Ancillary benefits including accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity plans (Voya)
  • Company-paid basic life insurance, plus voluntary (supplemental) life for you and your dependents
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance, fully paid by Cyngn
  • HSA and FSA (Health & Dependent Daycare)

  • 1:1 Health Concierge
