DirectMeds

Director of Accounting - RxRoute

RxRoute LLC (a Direct Meds Company) | Pharmacy Operations

Location: Houston, TX (hybrid; regular on-site presence at our Tomball, TX pharmacy)

Employment Type: Full-time

Reports to: VP of Accounting

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience, plus benefits

About the Role

RxRoute LLC is the pharmacy arm of the Direct Meds group, and we are building it from the ground up. We operate a licensed Class A pharmacy based in Tomball, TX (under an hour from downtown Houston) and are growing toward a multi-pharmacy, multi-state operation serving patients nationwide. This is a genuine start-up environment inside an established, fast-growing healthcare organization: a rare chance to shape the accounting function of a new pharmacy business from day one.

We are hiring a Director of Accounting to own the accounting operations of RxRoute end to end plus some administrative oversight. This is a high-ownership, build-it role for an experienced accounting leader, ideally someone who has been a Controller or is ready to step into a controller-level seat. You will stand up and run the books for a multi-entity pharmacy group, get ahead of the operational and compliance complexity before it becomes a problem, and build the processes (and eventually the team) to support rapid growth. You will report to the VP of Accounting.

What You Will Do

Own the accounting function

  • Own full-cycle accounting and the monthly close for RxRoute LLC and its pharmacy entities: general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements.
  • Establish opening books and the chart of accounts for newly formed and newly acquired entities, and design the structure to scale to multiple pharmacies.
  • Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages to the CFO and executive team.

Multi-entity and technical accounting

  • Manage intercompany transactions and eliminations across a parent / holding-company / operating-pharmacy structure.
  • Handle acquisition accounting, including purchase price allocation and intangible amortization, in coordination with the outside CPA firm.
  • Apply GAAP and tax-basis treatment appropriately and support book-to-tax reconciliations.

Tax and regulatory compliance

  • Manage multi-state sales and use tax: registrations, filings, exemptions, and nexus tracking as the pharmacy expands into new states.
  • Support entity administration: state registrations, assumed-name (DBA) maintenance, EIN and responsible-party filings, annual reports, and business licenses.
  • Track pharmacy licensing and registration items in coordination with operations and counsel.

Operations, AR, and inventory

  • Own the accounts receivable process from start to finish, including invoicing customers.
  • Establish and maintain inventory and cost-of-goods-sold accounting as pharmacy fulfillment scales.
  • Serve as the administrative point of contact for the Tomball pharmacy operation, partnering closely with the local team, with regular on-site visits.

Build and lead

  • Design and document repeatable accounting processes and internal controls suited to a growing multi-entity operation.
  • Build and eventually lead the RxRoute accounting function, including hiring and managing accounting staff as additional pharmacies come online.
  • Serve as the day-to-day liaison to the external CPA firm and corporate counsel.
  • Administer accounting systems and post payroll Journal entries.
  • Interface with Accounts Payable team & People Ops team as needed.

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (preferred) or Finance.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including controller, assistant controller, or accounting-manager-level ownership of a full accounting function.
  • Proven ability to own an accounting function end to end and work independently with minimal oversight in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge and experience with multi-entity and pass-through (partnership / disregarded-entity) structures, including intercompany accounting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required). Advanced Excel / Google sheets.
  • Based in the Houston metropolitan area and able to be on-site at the Tomball facility regularly.

Preferred

  • Multi-state sales and use tax experience. This is a meaningful differentiator for this role.
  • CPA license.
  • Healthcare, pharmacy, or other regulated-industry accounting experience.
  • Experience standing up the accounting function for a start-up or newly acquired entity, including purchase accounting and intangible amortization.
  • Inventory and cost-of-goods-sold experience.
  • Prior experience building or managing a small accounting team.
  • Experience with Rippling is a plus.

Location and Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid role based in the Houston metropolitan area. You will split time between remote work and regular on-site presence at our pharmacy facility in Tomball, TX to oversee the administrative side of the operation and partner with the local team. Applicants must reside in the Houston area.

Compensation

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and includes a full benefits package. Specific details are discussed during the interview process.
