Position Title: Engineering Team Lead – Electrical  

Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States

Job Summary 

Positions are available in our Mission Critical Department, which focuses primarily on hyperscale data centers and related mission critical facilities.  
 

The Engineering Team Lead – Electrical is a people-first leadership role within our Mission Critical Department. This person is responsible for developing, guiding, and elevating a team of electrical engineers while maintaining technical credibility on complex data center and mission critical projects. The Engineering Team Lead builds team capability, drives accountability, and creates an environment where engineers at all levels can grow rapidly and contribute meaningfully. 
 

The Engineering Team Lead will be self-directed and operate with a high degree of ownership over both people and project outcomes. They will define clear direction for their team, proactively navigate ambiguity, and consistently communicate forward-looking paths rather than waiting for instruction. This role requires the ability to facilitate, delegate, and hold a team accountable across a fully remote environment. 
 

The Engineering Team Lead will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, model the culture expected of the broader team, and actively contribute to the growth and scalability of the department. 


Essential Functions 

Team Leadership & Personnel Development (60%) 

  • Act as the day-to-day technical resource / mentor for assigned project teams, including coordination of engineering and BIM resources 
  • Support onboarding and technical ramp-up of newly hired engineers and designers  
  • Provide mentorship and development guidance to L3/L4 engineers through regular communication, technical reviews, and direct project involvement  
  • Participate in candidate interviews with focus on technical capability, communication skills, and team fit  
  • Assist department leadership with workload forecasting, staffing coordination, and resource planning  
  • Promote standardized workflows, design practices, and QA/QC expectations across assigned teams  
  • Escalate project, staffing, technical, or performance concerns proactively and provide recommended paths forward  
  • Support a culture of accountability, responsiveness, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the department  
  • Lead by example in communication, ownership, collaboration, and execution in a fast-paced remote environment 
  • Own the development trajectory of assigned L3/L4 engineers – set clear growth milestones, conduct regular 1:1s, deliver direct and actionable feedback, and proactively identify when an engineer is ready to advance 
  • Effectively delegate design tasks, calculations, and deliverable ownership to team members commensurate with their capability – resist the urge to execute rather than develop 
  • Model and reinforce desired company communication and operating system – coach team members to propose and articulate a path forward rather than waiting for client or management direction 
  • Facilitate structured team learning sessions, technical discussion forums, and lessons-learned reviews to accelerate knowledge transfer and build a high-performing engineering culture 
  • Identify individual strengths, development gaps, and learning opportunities for each team member; maintain awareness of each engineer’s readiness to take on expanded scope 
  • Support the firm’s apprenticeship model by serving as a primary technical mentor for incoming engineers, ensuring structured onboarding experiences that accelerate time-to-competency 

Support Electrical Engineering Design Activities (20%) 

  • Independently perform intermediate to advanced engineering work  
  • Perform intermediate to advanced electrical design tasks including development of electrical distribution systems and topologies, infrastructure and equipment layouts and selection / sizing of equipment  
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids (as applicable) 
  • Review and / or prepare book or sheet specifications for electrical systems 
  • Develop and / or review sequences of operations  
  • Assist in proposal development including project scope, schedule and budget  
  • Timely and effective management of project design team including resource forecasting and coordination  
  • Identify potential project scope changes and aid in development of strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines  
  • Define and communicate clear technical direction and design basis to project teams, particularly under conditions of client ambiguity or late-binding decisions 

Support Pre-Construction & Construction Activities (10%)  

  • Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports of findings 
  • Collect data and other information for construction documents 
  • Prepare project design and construction documents  
  • Will work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team 
  • Review shop drawings and submittals  
  • Review and respond to RFIs 
  • Review and complete punch lists and project closeout documents 

Reporting (10%) 

  • Maintain 30/60/90-day onboarding documentation for all new hires in purview, flagging milestone gaps before the next PDP gate  
  • Complete and submit performance development check-ins at defined intervals with written progress assessments, identified gaps, and recommended next steps for each direct report  
  • Proactively escalate performance or development concerns to department leadership prior to formal review cycles, with a proposed path forward  
  • Track and report team capability and readiness levels, including advancement candidates and identified resource gaps  
  • Report on workload distribution across assigned engineers, flagging capacity imbalances that risk compressing development time  

Technology, Digital Tools & AI-Enabled Efficiency 

  • Identify opportunities and lead the strategic use of technology, digital platforms, and AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency through workflow automation, reduced manual effort, and improved accuracy in forecasting, documentation, reporting, and quality processes. 
  • Support adoption of emerging technologies - including advanced analytics, data visualization tools, and digital construction management platforms - to strengthen readiness, quality assurance, and project controls. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure technology solutions align with DLB standards for data security, privacy, and operational integrity. 
  • Promote a culture that embraces innovation, continuous improvement, and the strategic use of technology to optimize performance and scalability. 

 

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget 

Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned 


Position Requirements (Advanced level for all the following) 

  • Knowledge of electrical systems found in buildings including single/three phase power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, grounding and life safety systems 
  • Knowledge of codes and specifications for the design of electrical systems including National Electric Code, Life Safety and Energy Conservation Codes 
  • Knowledge of technical / design software including short circuit coordination and arc flash studies, equipment sizing, underground feeder calculations and lighting calculations 
  • Knowledge of various electrical topologies and distribution systems 
  • Skilled at producing drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD and Revit 
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management 
  • Skilled in performing code analysis including selection of equipment, wiring, etc. to meet code requirements  
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail 
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation. 
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace 
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements  
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)  
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines  
  • Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others 
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Travel / Relocation Requirements 

  • Up to 10%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states  
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc. 


Education / Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from ABET accredited institution 
  • PE in related discipline  

PLUS 

  • Minimum of eight years of electrical engineering experience
