Technical SEO Specialist

About Jack Westin

Jack Westin is a leading Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) preparation company which is known for crafting high quality, but free, practice materials. The MCAT tests students on the scientific reasoning skills and scientific knowledge which can be learned during typical undergraduate coursework.

Our Three Principles

As we continue to grow and help students, we are guided by three major principles that we believe are vital to our community.

Attention to quality

We only create courses and practice questions that we would use. That means having the best, first-class teaching content that can possibly exist. We're not satisfied with mediocrity. We don't care about the amount of time or money it takes to get something done right. If it's not perfect, we won't stop until we believe it is. This ethos runs deep within our company.

Excellence in support

We're obsessed with our students. Their well-being and success drives us each day. Great customer service is not an afterthought. It is the most important service we can offer. We understand that our students come from different learning backgrounds. It's our mission to ensure that each one has an amazing experience.

Learn from anywhere at anytime

We are committed to building the future of education on the internet so that it is easily accessible to all students from around the world. Our dedication is to all students who want to learn, regardless of their pace, and no matter what time of the day it is.

Technical SEO Specialist (Remote | $2,000–$2,500/month)

Jack Westin has strong domain authority, a large content library, and meaningful organic traffic that feeds students into our free MCAT strategy sessions. The technical foundation has gaps that are holding back our rankings. The foundational on-page work is done. We need a senior technical SEO professional to audit what exists, fix what is broken, and build the off-page infrastructure that compounds over time.

We are open to structuring this as a defined SOW covering the audit, schema implementation, and an initial backlink push, followed by a monthly retainer if the engagement is delivering. International candidates are welcome. The requirements and tools below are the same regardless of how the arrangement is structured.

What You Will Own
  • Conduct a full technical audit of jackwestin.com covering crawlability, indexation, site architecture, Core Web Vitals, page speed, mobile performance, structured data, and canonical tag issues
  • Own the off-page SEO strategy: backlink profile analysis, link acquisition strategy, digital PR outreach, and domain authority building — this is the primary deliverable
  • Build and execute a structured data (schema) implementation plan covering all content types including courses, articles, FAQs, reviews, and how-to pages
  • Manage and grow the site backlink profile using Ahrefs, including identifying link gaps, disavowing toxic links, and building a sustainable acquisition pipeline
  • Monitor Search Console for crawl errors, coverage issues, manual actions, and Core Web Vitals regressions, and act on findings quickly
  • Set technical SEO requirements for new pages, site updates, and CMS changes, and work with the dev team before launch, not after
  • Report on keyword rankings and organic traffic trends with clear recommendations that non-SEO stakeholders can understand and act on
  • Stay current on algorithm updates and assess how they affect a content-heavy education site
  • Research and apply approaches for appearing in AI-powered search results including Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity

What We Are Looking For
  • 5 or more years in technical SEO with a strong record on off-page strategy — you have built backlink campaigns and link profiles that produced real ranking improvements
  • Deep working knowledge of Ahrefs across backlink analysis, competitor gap analysis, keyword tracking, and site audits — this is our main SEO tool
  • Strong command of Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, and Core Web Vitals tooling
  • Direct, hands-on experience implementing schema markup, not just recommending it
  • Ability to brief a WordPress developer clearly and precisely on technical fixes without needing to write the code yourself
  • You turn data into a prioritized action plan and can communicate it clearly to people who are not SEO specialists
  • You work independently, deliver against defined milestones, and flag issues before they become blockers

Nice to Have
  • Experience in education, e-learning, or healthcare
  • Understanding of how large language models index and cite content, and how to structure pages for that context
  • Experience with programmatic SEO at scale
  • Background in digital PR or editorial link-building campaigns

What We Offer
  • Fully remote, contract engagement with a retainer path based on performance
  • $2,000–$2,500/month
  • International candidates welcome
  • Opportunity to work on meaningful projects with a professional, collaborative team
