Root Insurance

Lead Actuary I

Root was founded on the belief that car insurance is broken, and we set out to change it. We’re harnessing the power of technology to revolutionize this archaic, complicated industry. Using machine learning and mobile telematic platforms, we’ve built one of the most innovative insurtech companies in the world.

The Opportunity

We believe that a disruptive insurance company must have a principled quantitative framework at its foundation. At Root, we are committed to the rigorous development and effective deployment of modern statistical machine learning methods to problems in the insurance industry.

As a Lead Actuary I, you will own complex pricing work from problem definition through implementation. In this role, you will lead the development of tools and frameworks to file and deploy auto pricing and product updates more efficiently. You will work cross-functionally with State Product Management and Engineering, and regularly engage with Root’s executive team to align technical insights with strategic priorities.

At Root, we are building a more efficient, data-driven approach to insurance pricing. Our Actuarial Pricing team supports regulatory filings, develops rate indications, evaluates pricing performance, and partners across the organization to help Root make well-informed decisions about risk, growth, and profitability.   To advance this work, we are looking for a Lead Actuary I who can improve and automate existing processes, utilizing AI technologies where appropriate while maintaining rigor and regulatory compliance.

Salary Range:  $107,800 - $134,700 (Eligible for competitive bonus and equity offering)

Root is a “work where it works best” company. Meaning we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US. We will continue to have our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.
