Take your Big Four experience into a commercially focused role
Law Partners is Australia's largest specialist personal injury law firm. Our mission is to help more Australians get the compensation they deserve, and we're continuing to grow and invest in the people, systems and capabilities that support that ambition.
We are seeking an analytically strong and commercially minded FP&A Analyst / Commercial Analyst to join our Finance team and play an important role in building and strengthening our commercial finance capability.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has built a strong foundation with one of the Big Four accounting firms – Deloitte, EY, KPMG or PwC – and is looking to move into a hands-on commercial finance role where they can apply their analytical skills and influence business decisions.
Reporting to the Head of Commercial Finance and working closely with the CFO and Financial Controller, you will turn financial data into meaningful insights that support better business decisions, improve financial performance and help shape the firm's future.
The opportunity
This is a hands-on financial planning and analysis role with broad exposure across the business. You will work closely with practice group leaders, partners, executives and department heads, helping them understand financial performance, manage costs and plan for future growth.
Your responsibilities will include:
Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Assist in developing and managing budgets, rolling forecasts and reforecasts.
- Build and maintain financial models covering revenue, expenses, cash flow and headcount.
- Analyse actual results against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, risks and opportunities.
- Support cash flow forecasting and working capital planning.
Commercial & Practice Performance Analysis
- Analyse practice group financial performance, revenue, profitability and costs.
- Monitor disbursement expenditure and develop budgets across practice groups
- Analyse WIP, write-offs, realisation and recovery rates to identify opportunities for improved financial performance.
- Analyse file velocity and operational performance, providing insights to improve productivity and outcomes.
- Support the development of financial KPIs and performance measures.
Business Partnering & Reporting
- Partner with practice leaders and senior management to provide financial insights and recommendations.
- Prepare monthly management reports, dashboards and KPI reporting packs.
- Provide detailed cost analysis and identify opportunities to improve financial performance.
- Support business cases, investment decisions, salary reviews and workforce planning.
- Translate complex financial information into clear, practical recommendations for non-finance stakeholders.
Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, data quality and forecasting processes.
- Support the development of automated reporting and dashboards, including Power BI.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across finance systems and processes.
About you
You are a high-calibre finance professional with strong analytical capabilities, commercial curiosity and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:
- Previous experience working with one of the Big Four accounting firms: Deloitte, EY, KPMG or PwC.
- 2–5 years' experience in audit, financial analysis, FP&A, commercial finance or a similar analytical finance role.
- CA or CPA qualification (desirable).
- Strong financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets.
- Experience with Power BI, SQL or other reporting and data visualisation tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial insights to senior stakeholders.
- Confidence building relationships and constructively challenging business leaders.
- A proactive approach, strong attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
