About Linea Energy
Linea Energy is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) on a mission to accelerate the clean energy transition through relentlessly efficient development and innovation. Founded in 2022 and backed by Encap's Energy Transition team, Linea develops, owns, and operates utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across the United States. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Linea Energy is committed to innovation, excellence, and the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and curious undergraduate or graduate student to join our team as a GIS Intern this fall. This is a hands-on geospatial and data role within our GIS and Technology team, focused on the spatial analysis, data management, and mapping that help bring utility-scale renewable energy and storage projects from concept to construction-ready.
The intern will work directly alongside our GIS and development teams and gain hands-on exposure to how geospatial data drives decisions across the full lifecycle of wind, solar, and BESS projects. You will contribute to live workstreams across multiple active projects, not just observe them.
What You’ll Do
Over the course of the internship, you can expect to gain experience across three core areas of GIS practice: spatial analysis, data management, and mapping and web applications.
· Perform site screening and constraints analysis in ArcGIS Pro, evaluating parcels, environmental layers, and infrastructure data to support siting and suitability decisions.
· Support the site control, permitting, and interconnection teams with spatial analysis, such as parcel research, buffer and overlap analysis, and permit-area review.
· Maintain and quality-check project geospatial data, including land, permitting, and interconnection layers, within enterprise geodatabases.
· Document data sources, schemas, and workflows so project data stays consistent, current, and reusable across teams.
· Write and maintain Python/ArcPy scripts to automate repetitive geoprocessing, data validation, and reporting tasks.
· Build and update maps, ArcGIS Online web maps, dashboards, and Experience Builder apps for internal project reviews and stakeholder updates.
· Prepare map products and figures for milestone presentations and consultant or permitting deliverables.
· Collaborate with land, permitting, interconnection, finance, and origination teams to understand how each discipline uses spatial data to advance a project.
Who We’re Looking For
The strongest candidates will bring technical curiosity, attention to detail, and genuine interest in how geospatial data helps renewable energy projects get built.
· Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, geospatial data science, computer science, or a related field.
· Working proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and basic Python/ArcPy scripting, demonstrated through coursework, projects, or prior internship experience.
· Familiarity with core spatial data concepts, including coordinate systems, geodatabases, and vector and raster data.
· Strong attention to detail and data quality, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
· Genuine interest in the energy transition, renewable energy development, or land-based project development.
· Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently and ask good questions.
· Plus: experience with ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder, SQL, or Microsoft Azure.
What You’ll Gain
· Broad, firsthand exposure to how geospatial data and tools support utility-scale renewable energy development from origination through late-stage development.
· Direct mentorship from experienced GIS and development professionals at a well-capitalized, high-growth IPP.
· Hands-on experience with an enterprise Esri-based GIS environment, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and Experience Builder, plus Python automation.
· Involvement in real, active projects — not simulated case studies.
· A strong foundation for a career in GIS, geospatial data science, energy development, or environmental planning.
