MBRYONICS Careers

DSP Engineer (Digital Signal Processing)

About MBRYONICS

MBRYONICS is at the forefront of free space optical communications. Our product portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions. Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems. The work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains. As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated - DSP Engineer - to join our group.

As a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer at MBRYONICS, you'll be a key player on our engineering team, translating advanced communication theory into reality for our cutting-edge optical communication systems. This role is ideally suited for a fresh PhD graduate looking to transition deep academic expertise into high-impact, space-bound hardware. You will dive into algorithm design, system modeling, and cross-functional hardware integration in a fast-paced, high-tech setting.

What you'll do

  • Algorithm Development: Design and simulate advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Forward Error Correction (FEC) algorithms in both floating-point and fixed-point precision to optimize link performance, enhance functionality, and minimize power consumption.

  • Hardware Co-Design: Collaborate closely with the FPGA engineering team to provide clear fixed-point models and specifications, ensuring a smooth transition of your DSP algorithms into RTL implementation.

  • System Modeling: Develop comprehensive end-to-end models of analog RF and optical components (including lasers, modulators, photodetectors, and amplifiers) to accurately evaluate and predict system performance under real-world conditions.

  • Cross-Functional Integration: Partner with optical testing and firmware teams to create robust, automated algorithms for transceiver calibration, beam alignment, and run-time optimization in dynamic space environments.

  • Validation & Testing: Conduct system-level validation of your models against actual hardware performance, utilizing lab data to refine and iterate your designs.

  • Documentation: Document your algorithm architectures, simulation results, and fixed-point specifications to support the wider engineering lifecycle.

Who you are

  • Education: This role would be ideally suited to a Post Doctorate (or nearing completion) with a PHD in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics, or a highly related field with a research focus on DSP or digital communications. We would also welcome applications from candidates with experience in industry rather than academia.

  • Simulation Mastery: Extensive hands-on experience using MATLAB and Simulink for complex modeling, system simulation, and algorithm development.

  • Theoretical Grounding: A deep, foundational understanding of digital communication theory, signal modulation, noise modeling, and error-correction techniques.

  • Fixed-Point Familiarity: Experience converting floating-point algorithms into optimized, bit-true fixed-point models suitable for FPGA or ASIC implementation (academic or project-based experience is highly valued).

  • Coding Skills: Proficiency in C/C++ or Python for scripting, data analysis, or rapid prototyping is a strong plus.

  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the academic rigor required to tackle open-ended, complex engineering challenges.

  • Soft Skills & Passion: Excellent technical communication skills, a collaborative mindset eager to work across disciplines, and a genuine interest in space technology and free space optics.

What's in it for you

Career Growth: Contribute to a world-class space-age communication program while developing your leadership skills in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment

Collaboration: Work with talented professionals across disciplines to drive impactful solutions

Innovation: Be part of a team pioneering advancements in manufacturing engineering for cutting-edge FSO systems

Work-Life Balance: Enjoy flexible work schedules and a comprehensive benefits package

If you're ready to take your career to new heights and drive the future of space-age communication, apply now and join the MBRYONICS team as our DSP Engineer
