About the role
The Security Officer is responsible for deterring criminal activity and enforcing rules on assigned Motown property or location. Their duties include protecting property, staff, guests, and visitors as well as monitoring surveillance cameras and alarms and patrolling areas to do security checks.
What you'll do
· Directly responsible for observing surroundings and providing for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, and protecting people and property, while promoting good public relations.
· Respond to alarms or disturbances and report to the Security Supervisor.
· Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and criminal activities.
· Maintain visibility in all public areas.
· Administering First Aid and CPR/AED to those in potential distress.
· Monitor the movement of suspicious vehicles/people and report to the Security Supervisor.
· In cases of fire and where it is safe to do so, use the fire extinguishers in the area to extinguish the fire and then if the fire is not immediately extinguished, activate the fire alarm, and evacuate the building by the nearest emergency exit.
Qualifications
· Ability to understand and operate two-way radio.
· Exceptional interpersonal skills.
· Knowledge of security protocols.
· Ability to act appropriately in stressful situations.
· Adept in de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques; preferred.
· Ability to understand and operate camera systems.
· Report writing.

Work Environment
This position operates in a public environment, both inside and outside of the museum. This role is subject to being exposed to external elements depending on the weather and season.
Physical Demands/Strength
While performing the duties of this position, the employee should be physically fit and able to stand for long periods of time.
Environmental Conditions
Moderate to high noise and temperature change.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Hourly. This position regularly requires weekend work and evenings.
Travel
Some travel to the Museum’s facilities and outside event locations. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Education/Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Proven 2+ years of experience as a security officer preferred
· Military or law enforcement background preferred
· Experience with security equipment and surveillance preferred
