About the role

The Performance Engineer, O&M, will report to the Associate Director, O&M and play a key role in maximizing the performance and reliability of OneEnergy's operating solar portfolio. This position will work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Asset Management to monitor fleet performance, identify issues, analyze production trends, and drive continuous improvement across our solar assets.

The Performance Engineer will develop and maintain performance reporting, analyze SCADA and operational data, investigate production losses and equipment issues, and support data-driven decision making throughout the organization. This role serves as a critical link between field operations and internal stakeholders by translating operational insights into actionable recommendations that improve asset performance, reliability, and long-term project outcomes.

As OneEnergy's first dedicated Performance Engineer, this individual will have a unique opportunity to establish performance monitoring best practices, develop reporting frameworks, and help define the processes, metrics, and tools used to evaluate the performance of our growing solar portfolio. The role offers significant ownership and the ability to shape how performance analytics support operational and strategic decision-making across the organization.

The preferred location for the role is Madison, WI, but we are open to remote candidates within the Central time zone.

What you'll do

  • Create and maintain monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc performance reports for OneEnergy's operating solar portfolio.
  • As OneEnergy's first dedicated Performance Engineer, develop and scale the company's performance engineering function by creating standardized reporting tools, data management processes, analytical methodologies, and monitoring practices that support a growing portfolio of solar assets.
  • Monitor fleet performance through SCADA systems, production data, and operational metrics to identify trends, underperformance, and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform energy yield, availability, production loss, and root cause analyses to support operational decision-making and maximize asset performance.
  • Utilize PVsyst models and other performance tools to evaluate actual production against expected performance and identify performance gaps.
  • Support owner and vendor invoice reporting and work order management. 
  • Facilitate communication with asset owner, engineering, and internal relationships to communicate performance trends, operational risks, and recommendations.
  • Investigate equipment failures, recurring alarms, and performance issues, working closely with Operations and Engineering teams to develop corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with O&M and Asset Management to identify performance and contractual issues.
  • Proactively prepare and communicate project status summary and detailed reports to the management team, staff, and customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Data Analytics, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of experience in engineering, renewable energy, and/or technical project management.
  • 2 years of Operations and Maintenance, Performance Engineer, or renewable energy experience preferred.
  • Experience with energy modeling tools, such as PVsyst.
  • Experience analyzing operational and performance data to identify trends, diagnose issues, and support data-driven decision making.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy equipment, including inverters, monitoring systems, weather stations, and other plant components.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to investigate root causes and develop practical recommendations.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, or performance metrics for internal or external stakeholders, preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with organizational capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A proven ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to project stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to take ownership, identify opportunities for improvement, and work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities often across functional and operational lines.
  • Ability to contribute to an amicable working environment with other associates and employees.
  • Position requires some travel, depending on time of year; must carry an active driver’s license and acceptable driving record. 
  • Must have a “roll up your sleeves and let’s get the job done right” type attitude.

Compensation:

Compensation Range: $90,000-115,000, negotiable based on background and experience.

OneEnergy’s compensation packages are dependent on an array of factors including, but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other organizational needs.
