The shop can’t cut what hasn’t landed, and the field can’t raise what the shop hasn’t built. As Patriot’s Buyer, you’re the upstream engine — sourcing raw steel, fasteners, and pre-fabricated products across four Texas operations, and negotiating the deals that protect every project’s schedule and margin.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Procurement, you’ll own source selection and purchasing for detailing, fabrication, and field operations across our DFW, Central Texas, Houston, and Trinity, Texas locations — keeping four busy operations supplied, on schedule, and on budget.

What You’ll Do

•     Strategic Sourcing: Secure and analyze supplier quotes; research and recommend suppliers on cost, quality, and delivery for your assigned categories.

•     Purchasing & Negotiation: Generate purchase orders for raw steel materials, fasteners, and pre-fabricated products — and negotiate the prices and terms that protect every project’s margin.

•     Market Intelligence: Track steel market prices and trends so Patriot buys smart and ahead of the curve.

•     Cross-Team Coordination: Work hand-in-hand with Fabrication, Field Operations, and Project Management to keep sourcing on schedule across all four locations.

•     Inventory Control: Set and maintain inventory parameters for your assigned products.

•     Problem Resolution: Jump on quality and delivery issues fast — so the shop and the field never wait on material.

•     Purchasing Strategy: Help organize and implement purchasing strategies under the direction of the Director of Procurement.

What You Bring

Must-haves

•     5+ years in a steel manufacturing environment

•     2+ years of purchasing and material-control experience in steel manufacturing

•     Sharp negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail

•     Proficiency with MS Office and excellent written and verbal communication skills

•     High energy, ethical conduct, and a team-first attitude — the professionalism to represent Patriot with every supplier

Nice-to-haves

•     Associate or Bachelor’s degree

•     Tekla EPM experience

•     Ability to read and interpret drawings

•     A continuous-improvement mindset — comfortable with metrics, reporting, and learning new tools

Schedule & Work Environment

•     Full-time; core hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend or extended hours to support manufacturing schedules

•     Professional office environment with regular coordination alongside our shop and field teams

•     Occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds (for example, packaging bolts)
