Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is one of Minnesota’s oldest African American-founded nonprofits & serves a multi-cultural community of more than 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. About the role


SCC Housing Services offers a range of housing services to provide the optimal intensity and duration of supportive services needed for the individuals and families we serve to thrive. We house people without preconditions such as sobriety because housing is a basic human right. Sabathani’s CoC Pathways Home offers Permanent Supportive Housing for those experiencing chronic homelessness. This is a long-term service designed for those having the greatest needs and vulnerability in our community. Our housing services include housing identification services, rental and move-in assistance, and on-going case management support that includes support with application for financial benefits, referral to educational and vocational programming, and transportation and childcare to attend this programming.

What you'll do

Direct Support and Documentation* 85% 

  • Intake of participants. 
  • Examining participant income and family composition. 
  • Providing housing information and assistance. 
  • Inspecting units for compliance and housing quality standards (HQS) 
  • Process rental payments to landlords. 

 

Internal Support* 10% 

  • Works closely with Sabathani’s CFO to process rental assistance payments. 
  • Develop or refine internal processes to ensure efficiency in communication and programming. 
  • Represents and promotes Sabathani’s mission and programs in a variety of public settings (outreach sites, events, organizations, referring agencies, etc.) 
  • Educate Sabathani Staff about referral, the application requirements, and application process.

Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree in human services, social work or related field, preferred.  
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in housing or social services.  
  • Experience working in a nonprofit setting preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Willingness to learn a variety of tasks; possesses excellent communication skills, a thorough understanding of nonprofit practices, a serious work ethic, and a desire to work in a team-orientated environment.  
  • Possesses the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.   
  • Understand the importance of customer service and professionalism. 
  • Knowledge and experience with diverse groups of people of lower socioeconomic conditions. 
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict management. 
  • Competency or the ability to quickly learn QuickBooks (Intuit Software) and Sales Force platforms. 
  • Competency in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. 
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the public.  Must use good judgment in recognizing the scope of authority. 
  • Ability to travel to sites within 30-mile radius of the office. 

 

Licenses and/or Certifications: 

  • Valid MN Drivers’ License, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Sabathani’s driving record requirements.
