Sherman’s: Proudly Not Normal Since '76 (and Counting!)

Forget everything you think you know about retail. Back in '76, while the world was doing its thing, Sharon Sherman was busy building something different – a side hustle selling clocks and gifts with a whole lot of heart. Fast-forward nearly half a century, and Sherman's has blossomed into four locations packed with home appliances, furniture, and mattresses.

Sure, we've grown beyond microwaves, but our family values? Rock solid. Show Concern. Have Fun. Be Helpful. Demonstrate Integrity. Show Ambition. Develop Relationships. These aren't just words on a wall; they're the fuel that keeps us going.

Why are we here? Because we're genuinely passionate about our community. We're the neighbors who help you turn houses into homes. And it all started because Sharon dared to be different.

We're seeking a Store Manager

You will lead our Normal, IL store. But more importantly, you’ll lead people.

Yes, you’re responsible for the overall health of the store. But this role isn’t about pushing numbers or chasing transactions. It’s about creating an environment where your team shows up the right way—and because of that, the results follow.

What matters most to us?

You create a space where people want to work, and because of that, a place people want to shop.

You own the in-store experience, making sure every interaction is genuine, helpful, and human. Your team doesn’t “sell.” They listen, guide, and problem-solve.

You set a clear standard, and you hold to it.

Your team knows where they stand. You’re consistent, direct, and present. You support your people, and you expect a lot from them.

Results matter.
How you get there matters just as much.

So, What Does “Not Normal” Look Like Day-to-Day?

You Shape How Your Team Shows Up

You’re not managing from a distance; you’re in it with them.

  • You coach in the moment - celebrating what’s working and addressing what’s not
  • You don’t avoid hard conversations - you handle them with clarity and respect
  • You build people up and challenge them at the same time
  • You create an environment where people feel supported and accountable

You understand: when your team grows, everything else follows.

You know how to create momentum - and sustain it.

You Create an Experience People Remember

You care about the details, but not for appearance’s sake. For how it makes people feel.

  • A showroom that feels welcoming, not overwhelming
  • A team that listens first and advises second
  • Follow-through that builds trust, not pressure

This is where your leadership shows up in real life.

You Keep the Operation Grounded

You don’t get lost in busywork, but you don’t ignore the details either.

  • You stay aware of inventory, merchandising, and store flow
  • You partner closely with Operations and Merchandising
  • You make sure the behind-the-scenes work supports what happens on the floor

You connect the dots so your team can focus on people.

You Build Something People Want to Be Part Of

High support.
High expectations.
No egos.

  • You invite feedback, and actually use it
  • You adapt when something isn’t working
  • You create a team people are proud of

If this sounds like you:

  • You care more about helping people than “closing deals”
  • You believe strong culture creates strong results
  • You enjoy coaching, developing, and challenging others
  • You hold a high bar—and don’t lower it when things get tough
  • You want to build something meaningful, not just manage it

Then, we want to hear from you!

Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of retail management experience, with supervisory experience
  • Experience leading teams and driving performance

Skills

  • Clear, direct, and honest communication
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Adaptable—able to adjust in real time and keep moving forward
  • Organized and able to prioritize what actually matters
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Comfortable with basic technology and communication tools
  • A genuine focus on developing others
  • A belief that work should be both high-performing and positive
