The Opportunity

SKYTRAC is seeking an experienced Senior IT Systems Administrator to join our team!  This role is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the organization’s IT infrastructure, and owns the reliability, security, and performance of servers, networks, applications, cloud services, and end-user systems. The role also serves as the escalation point for complex technical issues, leads infrastructure projects from design through implementation, and mentors’ junior IT staff.


In this role, you’ll work hands-on across servers, networks, cloud platforms, and cybersecurity tools — while also advising leadership on technology standards, roadmap, and risk.


This position is based on-site in our Ottawa, ON office.


As a Senior IT Systems Administrator, responsibilities include:

  • Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Windows and/or Linux servers, virtualized environments, and core business applications
  • Maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and identity access management systems
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity safeguards, including endpoint protection, MFA, email security, and network security controls
  • Support cloud-based platforms such as Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, and Google Workspace
  • Act as the final escalation point for Tier 3 hardware, software, and network issues
  • Lead IT infrastructure upgrades, hardware refreshes, and new technology deployments, including scoping, vendor selection, and implementation
  • Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans, including regular restore testing and documented recovery objectives
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to junior systems administrators and helpdesk staff
  • Lead the after-hours on-call rotation and coordinate emergency response as needed

 

What You Bring


Candidate Must Have’s

  • Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Administration, or a related field
  • 5+ years of systems and network administration experience, including senior or lead-level responsibility
  • Deep expertise in Windows Server, Linux, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and enterprise networking
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft 365/O365 administration and cloud platforms
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity tools, monitoring systems, and backup solutions
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash)
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols (BGP, DHCP, DNS, VPN, NAT)
  • Hands-on capability with network equipment (firewalls, switches, routers)

This position is for an existing vacancy within our IT team.

 

The salary range for this role is $88,000 - $120,000 CAD. The range posted is a guide and may not represent the compensation offered to the successful candidate. Compensation is based on the skills, knowledge, experience, and qualifications brought to the role.
