Spectrum Eye Physicians is one of the largest and most established ophthalmology and optometry practices in the Bay Area, with eight locations throughout Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties. We are currently seeking a skilled, medically oriented Optometrist to
join our team part-time (approximately 2.5 days / 5 half-day sessions
per week). This role is designed to support our oculoplastic surgery
pipeline by managing medical clinic, diagnostics, and perioperative
care.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical acumen in ocular
surface disease, adnexal pathology, and medical optometry. Operating
in a highly collaborative, fast-paced setting, you will work
hand-in-hand with our ophthalmology staff to manage complex medical
cases, run diagnostic schedules, and absorb routine post-operative
checks. This position will be supported by a dedicated clinical
technician to maximize throughput and efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities
Medical E/M Management: Evaluate and treat adult patients presenting
with non-incisional adnexal and ocular surface pathologies, including
severe dry eye, thyroid eye disease, blepharitis, and chalazia.
Oculoplastic Co-Management: Oversee routine, non-billable 90-day
global post-operative follow-up templates for functional and cosmetic
eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital surgeries.
Advanced Diagnostic Execution: Interpret and bill for targeted
technical diagnostics, specifically extended visual fields (full field
as well as taped/untaped), external ocular photography, and anterior
segment OCTs.
Non-Incisional Procedures: Independently perform and bill for minor
office interventions within the California optometric scope, including
punctal plug insertions, mechanical epilation for trichiasis,
therapeutic lacrimal probing/irrigation, and intralesional steroid
injections for chronic chalazia.
Oculoplastic Surgical Pipeline Support: Identify, screen, and refer
appropriate surgical candidates (e.g., dermatochalasis, symptomatic
ectropion/entropion, ptosis, lid lesions, ) directly to our
oculoplastic surgical schedules.
Compliance & Documentation: Maintain highly accurate, timely
electronic medical records (EHR) documentation and ensure all medical
billing is submitted in full compliance with current Medicare and
commercial PPO guidelines.
Qualifications
Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
Active license to practice optometry in the State of California with
full Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) certification.
Demonstrated interest or specialized experience in medical optometry,
ocular disease management, or surgical co-management.
Strong collaborative communication skills and the ability to work
seamlessly within an integrated MD/OD model.
