Senior IT Systems Lead

About the role

The Senior IT Systems Lead serves as WACBD’s hands-on technology leader and primary internal owner of IT operations, responsible for systems reliability, cybersecurity, compliance, vendor oversight, service delivery, and practical technology planning. This role ensures WACBD’s technology environment is secure, reliable, HIPAA-compliant, and aligned with the needs of clinical, pharmacy, administrative, and patient-facing operations.


Working across departments and with the Managed Service Provider (MSP), this role clarifies ownership, strengthens service delivery, and translates operational and compliance needs into effective technology solutions. Within the first 90 days, the Senior IT Systems Lead / IT Manager will assess the current IT environment and recommend priorities to improve accountability, cybersecurity, infrastructure, vendor coordination, and the appropriate balance of internal and MSP support.


As the senior escalation point for technical risk and complex IT issues, this role balances hands-on execution with oversight, governance, and continuous improvement. It is ideal for a practical IT leader who can build structure in a growing organization, reduce risk, and support technology decisions that directly advance patient care and organizational performance.


What you'll do


IT Leadership, Strategy, and Service Delivery

  • Develop and maintain the IT roadmap aligned with business, clinical, pharmacy, compliance, and operational priorities.
  • Serve as WACBD’s internal owner for IT accountability, including outages, escalation decisions, technology priorities, policy/compliance follow-through, vendor coordination, and practical risk-based decision-making.
  • Oversee managed service provider performance, including service desk support, monitoring, patching, backup/disaster recovery, Microsoft 365 security, user setup/decommissioning, technical alignment reviews, and security/compliance-related deliverables.
  • Manage IT budgets, contracts, licensing, vendor relationships, and technology investments.
  • Lead technology projects from planning through implementation, ensuring timelines, budgets, and objectives are met.
  • Establish help desk/service-level expectations, support triage and escalation, and promote responsive customer service.

Systems, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Compliance

  • Oversee network, server, cloud, telecommunications, endpoint, Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, identity management, and collaboration environments.
  • Manage workstation deployment, hardware procurement, lifecycle management, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Support EHR, specialty pharmacy systems, clinical applications, integrations, upgrades, testing, and vendor coordination.
  • Lead cybersecurity initiatives, including risk assessments, endpoint security, patching, vulnerability management, CVE remediation decisions, access controls, intrusion monitoring, incident response, and corrective action follow-through.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, URAC-related technology requirements, and other applicable healthcare and security standards.
  • Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, standards, compliance documentation, data integrity controls, and governance practices.
  • Provide or coordinate hands-on technical support when needed, including desktop, Microsoft 365, network/server troubleshooting, workstation setup, and help desk triage during transition periods or operational gaps.

Data Management and Analytics

  • Ensure the integrity, availability, security, and validation of organizational data across systems, backups, reporting, and critical workflows.
  • Support reporting, analytics, business intelligence, data governance, and leadership decision-making tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise contractors, consultants, and managed service providers.
  • Provide coaching, performance management, resource planning, and professional development.


Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible IT experience, including 3–5 years in an IT leadership or management role.
  • Experience supporting healthcare organizations, specialty pharmacies, clinics, medical practices, or other regulated environments preferred.
  • Strong systems administration background with hands-on troubleshooting ability across desktop, Microsoft 365, network, server, and help desk environments.
  • Experience with healthcare compliance, cybersecurity, IT governance, policy writing, compliance documentation, and regulated-environment controls.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels and recommend practical staffing, vendor, and support models.

Technical Knowledge

  • Microsoft 365 administration and Azure Active Directory/Entra ID
  • Network infrastructure, security, endpoint management, and mobile device management
  • Backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and data integrity controls
  • Cybersecurity frameworks, vulnerability management, CVE remediation, intrusion monitoring, and incident response
  • EHR, healthcare applications, specialty pharmacy systems, and healthcare workflow support
  • Identity and access management, vendor management, contract oversight, and technology project management

Preferred Certifications

One or more of the following:

  • CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, PMP, Microsoft Azure Administrator, Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect, or relevant healthcare IT certification preferred.
