About the role

Aalo Atomics is seeking a Configuration Management Coordinator to support implementation and day-to-day administration of the configuration management program for Aalo's facilities in Idaho.

Initially, this position will support the Aalo-X Critical Assembly Facility at Idaho National Laboratory. Over time, the role is expected to expand to support Aalo-0, the full-power Aalo-X facility, and other Aalo facilities as the Idaho organization grows.

The Configuration Management Coordinator helps maintain consistency among design requirements, physical configuration, and facility documentation throughout the facility lifecycle. The role works closely with Cognizant System Engineers, Facility Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Nuclear Safety, Quality Assurance, Document Control, and project organizations to ensure configuration information remains accurate, changes are appropriately controlled, and configuration-management activities are completed and traceable.

This position reports to the Engineering Manager – Nuclear Facilities and maintains a direct functional interface with the Director of Nuclear Safety & Engineering / Design Authority for configuration-management program status, significant configuration issues, and program performance. The Configuration Management Coordinator administers and coordinates the CM process; CSEs and other engineers retain ownership of technical content and the Design Authority retains the approval authority assigned by Aalo procedures.

What you'll do

Configuration Management Program Administration

  • Perform day-to-day implementation and coordination of the facility Configuration Management program across design control, work control, change control, document control, and assessments.
  • Coordinate with Cognizant System Engineers and other responsible engineers to maintain consistency among approved design requirements, physical facility configuration, and controlled documentation.
  • Track configuration-management actions, commitments, findings, and implementation milestones through completion.
  • Support continuous improvement of CM processes based on operating experience, assessments, corrective actions, and organizational growth.

Change Control Coordination

  • Track Engineering Change Requests, Engineering Change Notices, and associated change packages through review, approval, implementation, testing, documentation update, and closure, maintaining traceability among change packages, affected configuration items, technical documents, and implementation records.
  • Coordinate routing of change packages to affected CSEs, engineering disciplines, Nuclear Safety, QA, Operations, and other reviewers as required.
  • Monitor open changes and identify aging, stalled, or incomplete packages.
  • Support verification that configuration-controlled documentation is updated following implemented changes.

Teamcenter & Configuration Data Management

  • Serve as the Teamcenter configuration-management data steward, maintaining the integrity, accuracy, organization, and traceability of facility configuration data.
  • Maintain facility product structures and relationships among systems, equipment, requirements, documents, and change records.
  • Identify and coordinate resolution of data inconsistencies, incomplete records, duplicate information, and configuration discrepancies.
  • Support establishment and maintenance of configuration baselines at appropriate facility lifecycle milestones.

Configuration Item & Master Equipment List Control

  • Maintain the facility Configuration Item Master List in coordination with CSEs and the Design Authority.
  • Reconcile configuration-item information with the Master Equipment List and Teamcenter product structure.
  • Track system, subsystem, component, classification, and configuration-management tier information.
  • Coordinate updates resulting from approved facility modifications, equipment replacements, organizational changes, or revised configuration boundaries.
  • Support identification and traceability of configuration-controlled hardware, software, documents, and design requirements.

Work Control Interface

  • Screen or coordinate screening of work activities for potential impact on configuration-managed items in accordance with approved CM processes.
  • Ensure work affecting configuration items is appropriately linked to the engineering change-control process.
  • Track documentation and configuration updates associated with completed work.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to identify work activities that may alter the approved configuration.
  • Maintain the distinction between CM coordination and work execution: Operations and Maintenance own work planning and execution while Engineering and CM provide configuration and design-basis support.

Assessments & Physical Configuration Verification

  • Coordinate configuration-management assessments and track findings through resolution.
  • Support planning and scheduling of physical configuration walkdowns and design assessments, working with CSEs to define assessment scope and equipment samples.
  • Maintain assessment records, findings, corrective actions, and completion status.
  • Track configuration discrepancies identified through walkdowns, maintenance, inspections, engineering reviews, or operating experience.
  • Support reconciliation of field configuration with drawings, equipment records, and controlled technical documents.

Metrics & Program Performance

  • Collect, maintain, and trend configuration-management program performance metrics.
  • Track open and aging engineering changes, document-update backlog, assessment findings, corrective actions, configuration discrepancies, configuration-related nonconformances, configuration-database accuracy, and change-closure performance.
  • Prepare periodic CM status reports for Facility Engineering leadership and the Design Authority.
  • Identify adverse trends and recommend follow-up or corrective action.

Training & Process Support

  • Support delivery, scheduling, and tracking of configuration-management training.
  • Help users understand CM workflows, change-control expectations, Teamcenter processes, and configuration-data requirements.
  • Coordinate with the training organization to maintain required training records.
  • Support onboarding of new engineers, CSEs, Operations personnel, Maintenance personnel, and other CM program participants.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of CM guidance, job aids, forms, and workflow instructions.

Facility Growth & Turnover

  • Support configuration-data development and turnover for Aalo-0 and the Aalo-X reactor.
  • Coordinate configuration-document completeness during commissioning and operational turnover.
  • Support establishment of as-built and operational configuration baselines.
  • Assist CSEs in confirming turnover packages contain required design-basis, as-built, inspection, testing, vendor, and commissioning records.
  • Help integrate new systems and facilities into Aalo's long-term configuration-management framework.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Configuration Management, Quality Assurance, Information Management, or a related technical discipline; equivalent directly relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in configuration management, engineering document control, design control, nuclear quality, plant engineering support, asset/configuration data management, or a related technical function.
  • Demonstrated experience administering technical workflows involving controlled documents, engineering changes, equipment records, or configuration data.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent actions through closure.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, system documentation, equipment lists, engineering changes, and configuration records.
  • Strong organizational, data-management, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, QA, Nuclear Safety, and project organizations.
  • Proficiency with engineering information-management, document-management, or product lifecycle management tools.

Preferred

  • 7-10+ years of relevant configuration-management, nuclear facility, engineering support, or design-control experience.
  • Experience supporting a DOE nuclear facility, commercial nuclear plant, national laboratory, Naval Nuclear Propulsion program, or other highly regulated/high-consequence environment.
  • Previous experience as a Configuration Management Coordinator, Configuration Manager, Engineering Change Coordinator, Document Control specialist, or similar role.
  • Familiarity with DOE-STD-1073 Configuration Management and 10 CFR 830 nuclear-facility configuration-management practices.
  • Experience with Teamcenter or another Product Lifecycle Management/configuration-management platform.
  • Experience with engineering change workflows, configuration baselines, System Design Descriptions, Master Equipment Lists, configuration items, and graded CM approaches.
  • Experience supporting physical configuration walkdowns, design assessments, or configuration verification activities.
  • Familiarity with ASME NQA-1 or comparable quality-assurance programs.
  • Experience developing and trending configuration-management program metrics.
  • Experience supporting facility turnover, commissioning, startup, or operational readiness
