Position Description
Advanced Energy United is currently seeking a highly energetic, smart, self-starting Senior Policy Principal with a background in legislative work and/or issue advocacy to lead United’s state-level legislative and political engagement in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The Senior Principal will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with legislative and administrative decision-makers, managing and executing on United’s Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island strategy, and working collaboratively with other United team members to win policy outcomes that accelerate the energy transition and expand markets for the advanced energy industry. New England states have passed some of the nation’s most ambitious clean energy goals and are home to tremendous clean energy resources, but there is much work to be done to make those clean energy goals a reality. Our current policy priorities include advancing transmission solutions needed to support offshore wind and other clean energy resources; ensuring our electric grid is strengthened to support electric vehicles; and maximizing the use of energy efficiency and demand response technologies.
Key Skills for Success
A Mind for Policy: Market opportunities for the advanced energy industry are driven by policy. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes, and experience with energy policy specifically is a plus.
Small “p” Political Awareness: Recognizing opportunity, understanding power dynamics and building coalitions to seize policy opportunities are keys to success for winning victories on our issues. The ideal candidate doesn’t need to have a background in politics but does need to be familiar with political processes and be excited about engaging in the political side of policy-making.
Project Management Skills & A Drive to Get Things Done: The ideal candidate will be able to coordinate and drive team efforts from start to finish, keeping organized and navigating relationships with partners in multiple arenas.
